Working at a food place....

Can really lead you into temptation! Recently I got a job at Dunkin' Donuts, I've been pretty good with not eating or drinking anything from there, until I tasted their Sausage/Egg on plain bagel. Then we got the Pumpkin Spice in for the drinks and I've had a few Pumpkin Spice Coolatas. Well I have decided NO MORE! I don't really need to be eating and drinking those CALORIES, because that's how I see them after putting them in my diary. @_@ Gonna go back to bringing my bottles of water to work, and start bringing in sandwiches and such for my meal time. I might occasionally allow myself to have something from there, but that will be restricted to my husbands and my "Fast Food Friday" dinners.

One tip a lot of people use, including myself to some extent, is pre- logging. That way you send your plan for the day and how much it will be thrown out of whack by one of those treats. Good luck, you are working in he land of temptation.

I'm sure you know, but DD has some healthy options that I love! I get their caramel latte lite and sausage and egg white flatbread. The latte is like 120 calories and the flatbread is just under 300. Don't deny yourself, it will backfire! Just choose healthier options. If you really want to indulge, give yourself one day at work where you get a drink or snack you want. Good luck!

I used to work at a DD and LOVED it! I was the thinnest and fittest Id ever been working there. Idk why. Nothing appealed to me. And on the rare occasion I felt weak, I would have one chocolate munchkin and eat it slooowww. It worked everytime! :)

I worked in a family owned seafood restaurant where everything was fried, and gained probably 15 lbs in the first month.

I think this might be one of those situations where a full out "I will NOT eat at work" might be better than "I'll have one snack/drink" which will DEFINETLY add up!

Try to eat before you go, and bring your own snacks!

Good luck!! Think of it as a test in willpower -- If you can work at DD and lose weight, you can do ANYTHING

I work at a bakery and it helps me to bring snacks to snack through the day and if I'm working for a long time I bring a bigger meal. I also always have a bottle of water with me and I feel it really helps me.

I work at KFC and there is nothing there I feel safe eating, I also don't eat at any fast food places even there "healthy" options are often loaded with MSG, sodium, etc.. etc..

I usually find sucking on a mint or discreetly chewing a piece of gum helps me keep the food cravings down. We get a free meal of $6 a day and I usually give that to someone else who needs it and I avoid bringing money with me.

    Hope that helps.

I feel for you. But don't get discouraged if you occasionally indulge. You need to find a healthy balance.

I feel your pain. I work at Pizza Hut and when i work during the day we have a buffet to top it off. It has been really hard, but at least there is a salad bar when i forget to bring something from home. I try not to forget though and bring greek yogurt, fruit, or granola bars and such from home. Just depends on how long you work too. Also, be sure to drink tons of water. Wishing you all the luck. I know we can do it!!

Pre log and it can help you stick to your routine! I don't work at a fast food place but the hospital I work at has a Dunkin' in it right near the lounge and where I work so it's really hard to resist! Esepcially when it's so easy to get! I indulge every once in a while though, but definitely wouldnt more than once every other week! You can do it!

I work at a bakery and it helps me to bring snacks to snack through the day and if I'm working for a long time I bring a bigger meal. I also always have a bottle of water with me and I feel it really helps me.

I also work in a bakery. I pack snacks and a good lunch because I do have a lunch break. I'll usually pack some nuts and a piece of fruit for snacks and sometimes chopped up veggies with or without some dip or peanut butter. Sometimes I'll even pack a homemade sweet treat.

I find that somedays I can forgo the snacks altogether as I'm not much of a snacker during the day but other days I have urges to graze all day long and I'd rather not graze on the bakery food. That's not to say I don't ocassionally indulge - my favourites include vegemite and cheese scrolls straight from the oven or a fruit bun. I only just snuck a vegemite and cheese scroll in for breakfast the other day... delicious!! But not something I want to eat everyday (although, if it was made on a bread other than plain white, I'd seriously consider upping my intake LOL)

I don't like days that are heavy on production - too many opportunities for 'quality control!' I try to think about what I'd really like to indulge in and when I stop and think about it cake scraps and pizza crusts don't really hit the spot. I'd rather save the calories and go out for a nice dinner or have some nice icecream or chocolate.

I have always got into the habit of pre-logging. It certainly won't prevent me going over if I decide too, but I never get any nasty surprises and I make my choices based on being informed.

I totally understand your temptations. I used to work in a donut shop when I was a teenager, and I've been working in kitchens and bakeries since. I find that the longer I work somewhere, the less I eat the food because I get sick of the same thing day after day after day. This helps a lot, obviously, lol. Some suggestions of easy foods to bring to work - fruit, healthy cereal in a container (just use the milk in shop), hard-boiled eggs, pre-cut veggies in a baggie, etc. These are some things I bring to work that help me to stay full so I don't get tempted. If I forget to bring food with me, then that's when it goes downhill! Solution: pack your food the night before!

I work in an office where several people fancy themselves chefs :grumble:
I pack healthy snacks and lunches with LOADS of wiggle room, just in case...can't be caught off guard when the peach cake comes around

Good for you!! I log my food for the entire day. the night before when I'm working. I also work at a restaurant. If I log and bring my food for the day, then I won't deviate. Because if I do, I know that I won't be able to eat whatever dinner and dessert I have planned that night.

I'm in the same boat. I am a cake decorator at a grocery store bakery/Deli... Needless to say, I'm ALWAYS around temptations. My biggest trick is I look at the calories of everything I even contemplate eating. When you see that a single slice of cake can be between 300-400 calories, it just doesn't seem worth it unless it's a special event. LoL!

I work in a chocolate cafe and totally understand! It's so easy for me to just pop a chocolate into my mouth on my way to do dishes, or out to clear a table.

I'm a restaurant cook. Mostly I can avoid eating our food...I work with it all day, its the last thing I'm hungry for. Part of my job is quality control though...I have to taste a lot of it, every day. Those teaspoons of hummus or baba ganouj really add up fast some days! On the upside, I can order a meal and we have many very healthy options!
  • Normally I do bring my own foods, but then we ran out of bread for my sandwiches and haven't had time to stop by Walmart to pick up more, so I though "Sausage, egg, bagel...can't be too bad" and whoa was I wrong. I won't completely deny myself, I'll have the occasional hashbrown here or three, but I definitely can't be drinking and eating there too much. I don't really like coffee, so I get the coolatas, and even they can be up there in calories. :/ I have the willpower to ignore everything there when I am able to bring my own stuff, it's the days we run out of my "bring from home" food that I get "oh I'm really hungry just this will be okay" xD Plus, not having the money to really buy the stuff at work can help. We don't get free food, we just get 50% off, which is still cool, but being broke means you don't have much to give out towards unhealthy fast food.
