Okay so last night, my mom and stepdad decided to have a mini hurricane party since we're in the Keys.
My dad decided to Panko-fry fish and hush puppies.
I ended up eating double my limit by 2AM
I felt so disgusted with myself when I logged it all in that I decided that if I just didn't eat today, it would balance out.
Was this the right thing to do?

  • Hell no! You still need food. Just make up for it for exercising it off this week. Just means you need to exercise off an additional 1,000 calories or so. Just eat normal today. You'll be fine. Your body still needs food, don't fast!

Not sure if "right" but there is a 5 -2 diet method, more for health than weight, where you eat 5 days & fast 2, so maybe this is your "fast day"

It won't do you any permanent harm anyway

Not that fasting is bad ...... I do it myself on occasion ..... but why "starve" yourself ...... eat vegetables, etc that are low in calories, if that's your intent ......

And nothing "fried" ...... give that a rest

    Oh, and be safe !
  • I would just put that behind me, and start off today as a new day.
Definately exercise and eat more fruits and veggies.

A day of fasting won't do any harm. But it's really a choice. You can go about your day as normal and eat your normal calories and that's it. Unless something like that happens every week, it's no big deal to just let it go and not try to "fix" it. Or you could eat normally today and exercise extra and not eat back the calories. Or you could cut a couple of hundred calories today and the next day. It's up to you. I personally wouldn't do a whole day of fasting to make up for something like that, but not because one day is going to do damage, I simply can't function well if I eat no food at all. If I tried studying with no food in my system it would be like not studying at all because I would have such trouble concentrating, and would likely get a migraine due to not eating anything at all.

To my knowledge, fasting is fine. As long as your weekly net calories are met, I'm quite sure you'll avoid a metabolic nosedive (not sure about eating an entire week's worth of calories in a day and fasting for 6 lol). Starvation Mode is thrown around here too much.

With that being said, make sure you drink lots of water. If you can't take it anymore, just focus on eating veggies (very low calorie and filling/hydrating) or take that surplus and divvy it out over a few days added deficit, so you can catch up.

I don't think fasting for one day is going to hurt you. I wouldn't be able to do it though. I would get so hungry that I would probably give up and end up overeating again. Good luck to you, if that's what you decide to do. =)

tried the 5:2 thingy last week and didn't feel any the worse for it. fasting for one day won't do you any harm but eating way over your calories for one day won't do you any harm either :)

No issue hun. But be sure to have a small meal at some point the following day.

I do alternate day Intermittent fasting where I eat for a day (though no more than 1800cals) and then the following day I have a meal of 500-600cals, usually at dinnertime.

Not be stressing about it. Furthermore EVERYONE has a binge day at some point.
