Kind of getting excited now. I'm going to have so many new things to try0

Vegetarian for five years. Recently been finding ways to up my protein since MFP's limit is WAY too low for my workouts.
I think you need to add me for my diary but I'm pretty proud of my vegetarianism and diet.0 -
Oh the love!!!! Soooo much better than ...bacon.0

Oh the love!!!! Soooo much better than ...bacon.
Which, by the way, there are many delicious vegetarian and vegan versions of ;-)0 -
Yeah, no thanks on the fake bacon or other fake products. :noway:
I really, really don't like a lot of processed foods (Cheetos being an exception).
I won't eat tofu because it looks and tastes nothing like what it originated as. Veggies pretending to be meat is like... white rappers :noway: (with the exception of Eminem, he just got it like that).
I like taste and texture authenticity.0 -
I'm vegetarian because of my intense burning hatred for the meat industry and how they treat their animals. I confess, sometimes we get half a cow from a local farm because I support local farms who raise their animals humanely, with room to roam and play, hormone free, and the way animals should be raised.
I became Vegetarian back in June for the exact reasons. But I always say that if I ever do eat meat again in the future it'll only be from a local farm and ethically raised.0 -
Vegetarian since I was a kid and now Vegan so the only big hurdle was dairy and my body can't handle it anyway. My diary is not that impressive at all, I have such a crappy digestive system (ibs) that I have to be super careful when eating BUT I am very supportive! ^_^0

Hi there
I just joined this site and I'm a vegan. I'd love to be friends with any vegans or vegetarians too. My diary is public so you are very welcome to have a look but this week mine is a bit boring too but hopefully it will go back to normal after a week.
This week I'm setting myself a challenge to drink nothing but green thickies (fruit smoothies with leafy greens and oats added) to see how I feel at the end of it, and to see if I lose any weight.
It's been a bit of an eye opener so far anyway.
Nice to meet you.

Hello there,
I'm an off and on vegetarian/vegan and rarely eat meat - it has to be local. We have been getting eggs from a local farmer so they have crept back into my diet. My diary is hit or miss but fairly healthy (with the exception of chocolate and adult beverages). I'm a big fan of juicing and smoothies.
I have to chime in and second the suggestion of nutritional yeast and black pepper on popcorn. I'll never go back to cheetos.
Please feel free to add me. If I had more veggie loving friends I might get even better at it.0 -
I was a vegetarian for years and learnt that I was intolerant to dairy and it took me a year to completely stop taking it. I am a vegan and the best website for vegan recipes is the ppk (post punk kitchen) Isa is an amazing vegan with a good ideas. However some of the recipes are not always healthy unless eaten in moderation. She has amazing cakes, meals puddings etc. She also has a healthy vegan cookbook- Appetite for Reduction. I love her strawberry and spinach salad although it made A LOT of salad for one person. Her recipes are amazing.

I was once told that it takes 6 weeks to break a habit. I did that with bread and I took it a day at a time. Persevere.
I don't know how to give up dairy because I had no choice- I associated it with pain which was a good incentive. But a few years on and I don't have any urges or want to take dairy. I hate the smell of milk and sometimes I miss the idea of cheese as I was addicted to it but I never have the urge to eat it.
Good luck0 -
I'm veggie, married to an omni, so my diary might give some tips on omni-friendly veggie food...however I do use quorn and cauldron products, and my fruit and veg is a bit inconsistent (I have IBS made worse by insoluble fibre, so sometimes I just cannot eat it). Other than that I have a fairly healthy diet, I think0

I have been a vagetarian all my life. I dont eat anything with a face....lol. I don't plan on going vegan anytime soon as I LOVE LOVE LOVE egg whites, but feel free to add me and check out my diary. Always looking for some new ideas from my fellow ppl0

Hi all - I am new to this website and also looking for Veg*n friends (Veg*n-friendly is fine too). I was vegetarian for a couple of years in the past but I'll start by saying I am not 100% vegetarian now (but am striving to be). What does that mean? It means I choose vegetarian and vegan options about 90% of the time, the other 10% is my allowance for poor choices out of convenience and primarily when I am away from home. I grew up omni and pretty much all of my friends and family still are, so I never want to inconvenience them with my lifestyle choices. I am also in sales and travel for work quite a bit, so finding vegetarian meals on the go or when entertaining clients can be a challenge. I know many strict vegetarians and vegans may find this just lazy, but the way I see it is any attempt to make your diet primarily plant-based is going to have a positive outcome on your health, the environment, and towards the ethical treatment of animals.
It would be nice to connect with other fans of plant-based diets and lifestyles to share stories, ideas, recipes, product opinions/reviews, experiences, etc. I will try to make my diary open (I am not sure how to do that yet but will look as soon as I finish this post) and would welcome any questions or comments or ideas to make meals more nutritionally balanced and figure friendly!

Tings are good Cheetos replacement. Also check out snacks by Snikiddy Snacks, they make a mean cheesy puff. I first found them at Whole Foods but I have also seen them in my local big chain grocery store. All their products are vegetarian and some are vegan. My favorite is their Ketchup Fries! I don;t know what the rules are here for embedding websites, just google "snikiddy" and their website and facebook pages come up.0

Feel free to add me. I am vegetarian, although on occasion I will eat fish - don't love it, but make it for my family and sometimes the Hubs hounds me into eating some
I do eat eggs and some dairy (yogurt and cheese).

You're welcome to check out my diary but for a long time I just substituted cheese for meat so I'm still figuring it out too!
One thing I have discovered is that nutritional yeast is a good substitute for cheese in some circumstances (like on beans). It has minimal fat and lots of protein, and a cheese-ish taste.
Where do you buy nutritional yeast? Is there a particular brand you use?
I get my nutritional yeast at Superstore n the organic section "Purely Bulk" its in a plastic container0 -
I'm vegan you can all add me!0

I'm not sure why I waited until I turned 50 to really explore nutritional science, but now that I have, the advantage of a whole-foods plant based diet is clear to me. I can proudly say that I've been vegan for 3 weeks now! While this will surely get a laugh from those who have had the advantages of being long-time vegans, it means a ton to me in terms of a positive accomplishment!
Please feel free to add me, I'd love to get feedback and share and learn from the vegan community here on MFP!
