I would just like some advice please..I have had a history of disordered eating in the past (restricting) which I don't act on now,I have too much to live for now  I count calories, eat healthy and exercise almost daily. However now and again,I fancy a slice of cake or whatever,I feel extremely guilty.I use low calorie alternatives regularly (fruit etc..) but sometimes you just want the real thing you know? I really enjoy it,and I don't go overboard but afterwards I really beat myself up to the point where it ruins my day afterwards. Now,I only do this every 2 weeks or maybe even less, but i've logged it and now only have 150 calories for the rest of the day :( for someone like me,what do you think is the best approach towards treating yourself? I am in maintenance at 5ft 4 and 110lb Thank you mfps :flowerforyou:

You could up your exercise for the day to burn off some of the extra cals. Or perhaps look at your calorie distribution over the week - if you went over 600 calories today, you would only have to eat 100 under your goal for the other six days of the week to even out. One bad day, or indulgent isn't going to pack the pounds on. It's when all those indulgences start to clump together that you see a gain. I think that it's especially important in maintenance to develop a plan for yourself to deal with the calorie fluctuations that are going to happen as you go through every day life. Birthdays and parties and weddings and potlucks and PMS - we can't avoid these things, so it's better to plan ahead so you know how to deal when they come up.

^^This. I am going through the same thing as I am in maintenance as well. Last week I decided to have a low exercise day a a cheat day. I made sure that I ate under my calories for the next few days and I did not gain weight.

I think it's important to treat yourself from time to time or you will tire of your restrictive diet.

Thank you so much guys! You have really helped me to put things into perspective :) I work hard and sometimes I want a piece of cake! Log it and move on :) I'm going to have a light dinner, plenty of water and maybe a little exercise but I wont over do it or beat myself up.

AmberJamber-that's interesting! I find waiting to the weekends leads to a massive blow out for me,that's why I normally do it in the week :) glad it's working for you though!

    Thank you again! :flowerforyou:

hi, sorry to hear you're struggling, my daughter is in recovery from an eating disorder, and like you is finally starting to eat more calories, going from less than 300 a day to finally settling on 1200, she too feels very guilty if she goes over but i think she is getting better with it, in our house we have a treat day on Saturdays where anything goes, and we do really tuck in, but we get back onto our healthy eatin the next day and as long as we do this we don't feel guilty, you are only human at the end of the day so a little bit now extra now and again is ok, if you do have something try and see it as a treat rather than a cheat for all your hard work, i don't think anyone can fully understand what it's like to have an eating disorder unless they've been there, i just try and listen to my daughter and support her as much as i can, hopefully i can do the same for you, go easy on yourself, hope this has helped you a bit :)

Try like...low fat honey nut cream cheese on graham crackers...or a chocolate yogurt or nonfat chocolate pudding. Some snackwells cookies, skinny cow ice cream sandwich...I do a tablespoon of dark chocolate chips and a tablespoon of peanut butter.

Thank you for all your advice guys! I've decided that my treat every so often will remain unlogged as normal, which has been working for me :) I'm normally under my maintenance calories by 100-200 daily,so I have a kind of buffer.Plus, the cake was good

Feel free to add anybody who is/has been going through similar issues or just for some support! :flowerforyou:
