I tend to enjoy getting my cardio while dancing b/c this is the only way i can go for hours and not even notice or feel like I am working out. i also do lunges and squats. I feel better and feel like i am losing inches on my stomach and i have noticed my legs are a lot more toned, but as far as weight, I haven't seen any results. Is this an effective way to achieve the results i am wanting or is there something else i can incorporate that is entertaining and will give results?

I think dancing will definitely burn calories. I enjoy doing the Wii Just Dance with my heart rate monitor to see how many calories I can burn. My favorite all time exercise is walking. I LOVE walking.

For sure! Especially if you're out all night dancing and afterwards you feel exhausted...I would say you've gotten a good workout!

I was doing Zumba 4 times a week and really focused on what I was eating and I lost 1lb a week for 2 months. Then I started doing more strength training workouts and saw inches lost but not the numbers on the scale. I'm going to start incorporating both Zumba (2x a week) and Insanity (2-4x a week). I love to dance too and had a blast doing Zumba and the Just Dance on my Xbox. Dancy is an effective form of cardio, but you will need to mix in some strength into your routine as well as watch what you eat.
  • yes dancingis effective but you need to do a different range of motions while dancing to get toned. . . .

try looking up the daily burn. . . its dance videos that tone u at the same time. . .. i saw it on the side on MFP as an advertisment and went to look at it, tried it and i love it, not i just gotta get mroe time to do it!

    Dancing is definitely effective.

What you need to do is take a look at what you said. You're not losing weight, but you're losing inches and toning. You're looking for something to "meet the goals you're looking for." It could be anything else and you'd be unhappy: you're making your body healthier and more attractive, most likely by gaining muscle (or at least retaining water in the worked muscles) and toning. It's foolish to discount these gains because the scale hasn't moved... especially because if you keep it up, the scale WILL move.

Hi i do belly dancing which is great for toning and losing weight. I also go to the gym 2-3 times a week, but the dancing is different, its fun and exercise at the same time. I also use to do Zumba but the class changed its time, I also do wii dance if I dont get chance to go to the gym:happy:

    Holy poop, good on ya!

I agree, dancing is fun, but you would have to Zumba, which will make you sweat like crazy. Shaking your butt while cooking up a storm in the kitchen won't melt the pounds.

Anything that raises your heart rate will burn calories and fat.

Heck yeah - why else do you think dancers have great bodies LoL

Anything really that gets you moving will help you lose - shaping requires effort on any level, when you are dancing up a storm think about isolating your muscles to help tone them naturally :)
  • Thanks so much!! I am definitely taking everything you all have stated into consideration! :)
