The Polar FT7 versus the Polar FT4

Which one do you have? Pros? Cons? Which one seems to estimate calories more accurately?
I am in the market for one and these two seem to be top on my list. I like the fact that the FT4 comes in pink, but that’s not really the point of the watch, is it?
I just want something that will be very comfortable, work efficiently, and calculate calories. I don’t care about how many workouts it stored, whether or not it transfers information to the computer, target heart rate, etc. I just want an instrument that is accurate with the calorie count.
Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

no answer, but i'll bump! I'm looking at HR monitors too, and same deal--all i'm looking for is accurate calorie measure as well. PS--its funny that you mentioned the fact that FT4 comes in pink--that's why I want that one too0

Baha. Trying not to be a stereotype, here, but hey, their marketing crew knows what they're doing.
pink, and I don't care how girly it makes me!0 -
I have the FT7, and I love it. It's very comfortable, easy to clean off after the work out, watch is very easy to program/manuever through, compact for easy storage (just toss in the bag and go).
Cons, it's more expensive than the FT4 (and to my knowledge doesn't come in pink)
As for accuracy, I find it to be almost point on using the HRM vs trying to calculate it with a formula (you can find them anywhere to do so manually).0 -

So the FT7 and the FT4 are pretty similar, except for the price and layout?
And yay for accuracy! Thanks for your feedback.0 -
I have the FT4 (in pink!), and I love it! my mom got it for me for my birthday, and she did alot of research on them.. she went with this because it was easy to use, had great reviews, seems really accurate, and the price point was reasonable. i don't know how the FT7 is, but I can tell you that you won't be disappointed with the Ft4 if you decide to go with that one!0

Yay! I read one comment a while ago that said they felt the Poalrs overestimated, so I suppose that's where my hesitation came in.0 -
I have the ft4 and love it! Certainly got it because it was cheaper and I didn't need anything but calories burned and heart rate. So i think it is great.

I'm pretty sure you can't adjust the VO2max settings on the FT4, pretty sure you can on the FT7. That would be reason enough for me to go with the FT7. VO2max ties your heart rate to your calories burned. If it's not adjustable, then it's another level of estimation built in to the unit, whereas people are using the HRM to try and eliminate estimation in calories burned.0

I have an older Polar that is light pink - my only complaint is that it is hard/impossible to clean and looks dingy after all these years. However, you may not have that issue with a darker pink.
I do love my HRM though. It seems very accurate and is very easy to use.0 -

Try a Mr clean magic eraser on it. It's taken some of the stains off my old dingy looking sports watches. Certain stains can't be removed (to my knowledge) but the eraser works better than anything I've ever tried (and I've tried everything!).0 -
I've been going back and forth from the FT4 and the FT7. It looks like the FT7 is about $10-$20 more expensive.
Here's a chart that lists the features:

Yesterday I was leaning toward the FT7 becasue of the ability to link it to my computer. Today I'm leaning toward the FT4 because it will do automatic age-based target zones. :ohwell: :happy:0 -
I went with the FT4 because it does what I need it do, it's more attractive, and less expensive!
Thanks for all of your help, guys!!0 -
I own the FT4 and I believe the only difference is that the FT7 has Polar Energy Pointer and uploads to the computer. Both of those features were not selling points for me so I opted to save the money.0
