USA friends: suggestions for breakfast?

Hello!
I live in Italy and usually have breakfast at home, but tomorrow we are going to the "California bakery", which is a nice bakery that sells traditional US foods.
I've been to the US before (San Francisco - the place is amazing), but it was only for a couple of days and I didn't care much about eating healthy back then - so I enjoyed pretty much everything.
Tomorrow is different: the breakfast I am going to have is still going to be a treat, something nice that I do with my partner and best friend, BUT I want to keep it as healthy as possible.
They have muffins, scones, pancakes, freshly made cakes, granola yogurt, fruit salad, brownies, lemon squares, chocolate chip cookies, bagel and cream cheese, pecan sandies, scrambled eggs, french toast, egg benedict... etc
The only things I wouldn't eat are:
Fruit salad (this wouldn't feel like a treat at all. I eat fruit salad very often)
Yogurt (as above)
cream cheese (I don't like it).
What do you suggest? I LOVE pancakes, but I believe that I have the will power to pick something better (maybe).
Thank you!

Oatmeal with fresh strawberries on top.
French toast (not a bad choice if it is made with homemade bread and served with real maple syrup).
Scrambled eggs and some turkey sausage.0 -
Eggs are good. None of those pastries are though... maybe you can find a bran muffin or whole wheat toast to eat with your eggs? And the fruit on the side sounds yummy to me!0

try an english muffin with scrambled egg on it. You can even have them put american cheese (or any cheese) Very good and not to bad on calories either Hope you enjoy whatever you end up getting.0

I would see If they can special order an egg white omelet for you and load it up with veggies. (tomatoes, onions, spinach, jalepenos)
Make sure you request no cheese, and see if they can do no oil on it either. Lastly top it off with fresh salsa and lowfat milk on the side.
Also they might have a turkey bacon alternative.0 -
When I go out to breakfast, I tend toward omelets, so with that menu, probably scrambled eggs and some whole wheat toast. But if you want to splurge a bit, get pancakes instead.0

Be careful!!!!! If the muffins are bigger than your fist, and look really yummy, they could have over 600 calories.... Eggs and toast are your best choice with turkey bacon or sausage...0 -

If you want healthy, stay away from muffins, scones, bagels, brownies (not a breakfast food), french toast, pancakes, pecan sandies (I don't know what these are, but sound like a cookie), chocolate chip cookies (not a breakfast food), etc.
But, that won't leave you with much.
Eggs benedict could be healthy if you get it without the sauce. Eggs, english muffin and canadian bacon are all relatively healthy. However, it's the sauce that makes it delicious.
I would probably have scrambled eggs, bacon and whole wheat toast. Or a veggie omelet.0 -
Eggs are great and full of protein, and probably healthier than the sweeter alternatives. However if you can keep your portion small or split something you'd want to try, that's always good to do. I would recommend try to research calorie content of the restaurant, see if they print it online or if even MFP has their stuff registered, and decide what you want based on how many calories you want to have for breakfast that day, and then you could just keep your other meals lighter or something!
Have fun!0 -
Get a nice omelet, maybe mushrooms and cheese, 2 pieces of bacon, a piece of toast with jam, a cup of coffee, and a glass of orange juice. Then split it with your partner. Stay away from the pastry, even a small one can set you back 200 calories. You can get out of this with something in the 300-400 calorie range, and you'll like it too. Good luck, bon appetit, or, what do they say in Italy? Godere?0

Thank you to all of you for the suggestions!
(they made me hungry XD )Good luck, bon appetit, or, what do they say in Italy? Godere?
We say "buon appetito"
"godere" is more for sex, actually. XD0 -
If this was me, I'd probably decide to splurge a little bit, but as you said not go to crazy. i'd split the pancakes with my partner (and no one says you have to even eat half, maybe just a few delicious bites will be enough) and then get some simple eggs to make sure i had protein to satisfy me. Yes, as the above person commented it might "set you back" 200 calories, but for a special breakfast on a vacation where I'd probably be walking all over the place? I think it's safe.0

I agree with the splurge. I don't eat breakfast foods normally but if I did, it would be pancakes. I'd split the pancakes if it were me.0

If you want to be healthy...get scrambled egg whites with cheese on top and an English muffin (actually very tasty and low-cal). If you want to splurge a bit, get banana pancakes with a side of sausage. Those are my go-to diner foods.0

Eggs benedict is one of my most favorite breakfast treats!!! It's divine!! You must try this0
