So, I'm going on vacation next week with some friends. I'm giving the diet a break, and going to enjoy the local food and have a good time. Yet, when I found out we'd be eating out for pretty much every meal, I started thinking of fruit that would be good to keep in the hotel room to make sure I managed to eat some. Even not on the diet, I wanted to be a little healthier. *tear* This is a completely new way of thinking for me!

Keeping fruit in the hotel is nice for the snacks but keep in mind, restaraunts today are looking at also committing to a healthier eating crowd and have items that will let you eat well at the same time keeping your numbers.

True, but I'm going to be in southern states where deep fried is a delicious option. I'm definitely not going to go crazy overboard in calories (since I've gotten used to smaller portions and have lost a bit of the taste for grease lately), but bets are I won't be eating all that healthy. I'll still try to make decent choices though. =)

Wow good for you for thinking ahead and keeping health in mind! Don't let your friends pressure you into all the foods they are eating ;)

1 week will not break you. If you overate by 1000 calories a day you'd gain less than 2 lbs.

That said, I've lived in the deep south, you can eat healthy there it's just that most people don't. Don't give yourself excuses before you've even started.

I love it! I think a major killer of vacation is that you don't usually have snacks around a hotel so when you do go for food you are starving and just pick whatever option. By having snacks you are going to keep yourself from getting starving and it will probably remind you to eat a little healthier, even though there is nothing wrong with relaxing your diet on vacation. Good for you!

I travel a lot for business and when I do travel I try to find ways to increase my activity level to compensate for eating out so much. I hit the hotel gym a lot and try to walk to places instead of driving. If I am “good” I actually come back from the trip with a slight weight lost.

Southern greens are not too bad, smoked meats are an option. I like your idea about having fruit. You can buy that anywhere.

Plenty to eat on vacation that tastes great, you can go with fish and meats (fish is going to be healthier) or with salads if you can stand them. Just stay away from a steady diet of pastas and pizzas and you will be fine. Also, most hate to hear it, alcohol is useless calories so the more you drink the less you get to eat.

hotels all pretty much have workout rooms..... If you made it a point to bust out a workout before anyone else is up, you will have already earned some of those extra calories. Don't forget to add the exercise you'll may be earning..... I know I usually end up doing a lot of walking on vacation.

That's great! Definitely bring some healthy snacks. If the hotel has a refrigerator grab a bag of baby carrots or celery or something that is super low cal for days where you definitely overindulged but still need a snack!

I was thinking too of the workout room in the hotels now a days are very nice! Go ahead and get a good sweat so you can earn some extra calories!

I also agree with one week won't kill you...enjoy yourself that is what vaca is for! Get back on track as soon as you come back!!

Have a great vacation....make some wonderful memories!

I went on vacation in the deep south (Florida) for 2 weeks. I visited the gym everyday, only ate out one time, and kept lots of fruits and veggies in my condo...I didn't gain a pound! Wishing the best for you...

We're going the hotel route, so eating out is gonna happen. I'm going to try and work in a few healthier options, though. As long as I don't gain, it's a victory! Plus, we'll be doing some hiking, so I can burn a little off.
