What is your source of protein after weights?

I get off of work at 5, drive immediately to the gym, have an hour-long heavy lifting class at 6pm, then a fifteen minute break, and then intense Zumba at 7:15.

I need some protein after the weight class, but I only have fifteen minutes, I am pretty limited to whatever I bring with my or that is in my locker, and I don’t want to feel nauseated during my Zumba class because I downed an entire protein shake or three hardboiled eggs.

Do any of you pros have any suggestions?

Why not take your protein after Zumba?

I understand that if you do not get some protein in after doing heavy weights, within 45 minutes, you lose the good window for muscle repair. :|

    Is this BS?

I prefer to take my protein immediately after, but when I'm running, jumping rope, spinning or swimming directly after weights I just wait till I'm done with everything. Make sure to stay hydrated while you wait for your class and you'll be just fine.

it is sort of BS, as you can eat/take some before your workout and get many of the same benefits as the post workout meal/shake.

I personally down 2 scoops of muscle milk after my workout for simple convenience. I just put the powder in my shaker and pack it in the gym bag, add some water, and drink.

If it were me, I'd just try to get something before the weights, then eat something directly after Zumba and not stress out about trying to get something between the workouts.
  • Why not get one of the fruit flavored proteins and mix it with water and drink it during you weight routine. That way you wont feel so full of it before Zumba.

it is bs. the "window" is more like 24-36 hours. just get your protein after or when it is convenient

when I would do two classes like that I would bring in some almonds or something..normally I did do cardio first though then weight training. Maybe something like that will help you stay energized and do your protein after your workout?

you can drink it during you workout as well so you are constantly supplying your muscles with energy and getting some of the protein in to the muscles already. definitely have another protein shake after the zumba as well.

From my understanding you should be having the protein after your 'cook down' so during your zumba your body is still working and using those muscles you worked on with weights, even if only a little bit I would say you could still do it directly after zumba. If not I would eat nuts. Usually after working out I don't feel hungry at all and I have a serving of almonds or peanuts because they're dense but still pack a punch without 'filling' me. They also are easy to keep in a bag or locker.

I love the nuts idea!!! I'll pack some almonds!!

I've never in my life made a protein shake, but I'll do some research and see if I can mix it in my water bottle for Zumba class. Afterwards I shower, so I realistically won't eat until 30 minutes after my classes finish.

Thanks, guy! I appreciate your input, and more is always appreciated as well!
