There's a girl in my class who had a bulldozer run into her house, and she's living in a hotel right now. She's really upset and our class wants to do some sort of charity for her, but I'm short on cash so does anyone have any ideas for some sort of care package or item/thing I could get her?
EDIT: Sorry, I should have specified: I don't know whats going on as far as her insurance goes. We are not trying to raise money for her to get her house fixed, we just want to get her cheap things, giftcards etc that she could use while shes living in the hotel.

Is the red cross able to help the family. Not sure if they can or not. Are they part of a church? Sometimes the church will help out. I'm sure they would appreciate meals. Even if it is nothing major, its more than she has.0

You have stuff.... ebay helps you sell stuff... you get money...connect the dots.0

Crisis centers in her area or churches could be of help.0

Why is your friend not in contact with the bulldozer operator's insurance company? The bulldozer operator is responsible for her displacement; therefore, he (his insurance) is responsible for this sort of thing. Also, does your friend not have home owners insurance? When my house caught fire last month, my insurance covered it all.0

I was thinking more along the lines of care packages, or food giftcards (something relatively cheap), but Yes, THANK YOU. I will go ahead and sell everything I own on ebay so I can buy her a new house. Great.0 -

I'm not really sure what's going on as far as insurance goes, but the class knows shes upset, and shes staying in a hotel right now. That's all we know. We're having class tomorrow so I was trying to think of something cheap I could bring for her or something she would appreciate in her situation.0 -
Try a hug and a shoulder, both free and priceless at the same time.0

I would suggest a little food care package with a few healthy snacks and some fruit. Things she can keep in her hotel room. You can even gather some unopened stuff from your personal stock to save some cash. Maybe that and a gift card to starbucks with a card0 -

Thank you! I didn't think of a fruit basket and I probably do have a few food items I could give away. Most helpful suggestion so far!:flowerforyou:0 -
Get her something she'd likely be needing; whether that be some cosmetics or something similar.0

If you want to do a gift card try giving one for a Dollar store, I am not sure if you have a dollar tree in your area but the ones by us have many things that would help including food, drink, baby items, dishes, cooking utensils, some clothing items, toiletries and even just things to do to help occupy such as coloring books, toys(for kids), puzzle books etc ....All for $1 or less. If that is not an option check your local churches if they cannot help 90% of the time they can refer you to someone that can.
I wish your friend the best on their situation.0 -
Go to people you use for stuff and see if they would donate to the cause.Sometimes folks will do it for advertising purposes as much as kindness. Like your hairderesser, masseuse , restaurant, healthfood sotre etc for vitamins etc.0
