Hi! I'm currently in college, and for one of my education classes we need to modify 3 pre-made lessons (that are apart of some overall theme, such as Fall or Penguins, etc). I'm having a really hard time finding pre-made lesson plans online...especially 3 that relate to the same thing. I know there are quite a bit teachers on here, so I was hoping someone might know of a website that has already made lesson plans? I'm having such a hard time!

    I always google everything... lol...

    I teach junior high... or I'd give you some of my lesson plans... but mine aren't really about Fall... although I did do one about writing about fall when I taught 6th grade... it was a descriptive writing lesson

    I've been going all night, but I haven't really found any lesson plans, mostly activities. I guess my biggest problem is finding 3 lesson plans that are about the same theme (which can be anything, not just fall).

    Hey woman!

    I would pick a different kind of theme... not sure if it falls into your guidelines or not, but googling "Free Verse Poetry Lesson" or "Beginning Sounds Lesson" (more of a topic rather than a theme) would probably yield more results!

    You may also try looking for a unit or worksample as that would be multiple lessons that build or are related.

    Hello! Art Tacher here! Here are my thoughts...
    Pick a theme....such as Fall, and go cross curricular, use one lesson for art, one for science, and one for language arts.
    Here is a vague description of my thoughts:
    Language arts, write a descriptive story about fall using the senses as your guide
    Science, answer the question....what causes weather changes, and leaves changing colors ect
    Art, drawing a fall picture to go along with the story, leaf rubbings or other fall themes art

    I googled "free lesson plans" and found a ton of websites.

    Edited to add....I figured that it would be better to google something generic like "free lesson plans" and then look through them and see if you can find three on the same theme. For example, the federal government website has lesson plans divided into categories and sub categories, so the category could be your theme, and take a lesson from each sub category. Famous People-Explorers, Inventors, Scientists, etc.

    With the elections coming up, I would especially focus on Government/Elections/Presidents...etc.

    I just googled free teacher lesson plans and came up with a bajillion pages...

    If you are modifying pre-made lesson plans (presumably to fit your university's format and a prescribed grade level) they don't have to be exact (Does that make sense? You're going to tweak them anyways... As I remember the professors when I was in school..."Don't reinvent the wheel"...in other words, take advantage of all the material out there that people are willing to share!) So an example for fall lessons for primary students might include: A lesson on harvest (throw in a field trip to a pumpkin patch), a lesson on trees (make sure to go out and pick up a variety of fallen leaves and integrate a science lesson...then, mix them with crayon shavings and iron them between wax paper for a gorgeous art montage), you could do lessons on holidays (integrate health lessons - stranger danger when trick-or-treating, importance of brushing one's teeth maybe?) and of course seque into the First Thanksgiving....and then you're off on a new unit of the early colonies!

    I forgot to throw in an integrated math lesson...weigh and measure different fruits and veggies for the harvest lesson (maybe do some math on what produce costs per pound out at the pumpkin patch?! Make sure students participate in a pre-planned physical activity out at the patch...) Have them create a journal of a pilgrim child or write an essay on a meaningful holiday to them (depending on student grade levels and abilities), do a music lesson on different cultural celebratory music, and maybe do an online lesson or game that integrates...and I think you'd have all primary subjects covered! Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Health, PE, Art, Music, and Technology! Professors REALLY like it the more subjects you can integrate into your lessons... :wink:

    OR google "Lesson Plan ideas about _______________" or "Classroom Ideas for teaching _________________" I come up with quite a bit that way. If you have a grade level in mind, add that to the search, i.e. "Lesson plan ideas about heredity for 6th grade" There IS alot out there....you just have to keep your mind open to filling in the holes in the way different teachers write lessons because they aren't all in textbook form. We don't exactly roll that way uniformly in the field.

    Also--consider this when you say all you are finding is "activities" but that's all a lesson is really made up of. A "lesson plan" is the plan for the daily activity that works toward the larger objectives of the whole unit. BUT if you are looking online for a "lesson plan" that is already written out in the "by the book" method that they teach you in school, be aware that the formal lesson format is not something all teachers adhere to, at least in writing. We have alot of that stuff in our heads but I remember transitioning from school to the classroom and thinking no way is it feasible to write every lesson for every single day out in the excruciating detail that they required in my methods classes. Most of us jot down a basic objective and teaser or "anticipatory set" to use the technical term for the activity, enough notes for ourselves to jog our memories about what the activity of the day for that subject is and maybe any special materials that will be needed, if there's anything out of the ordinary. The unit plan is more detailed but the daily lesson plan is just a basic outline that will fit in a lesson plan book or form so consider which one you're actually looking for. I'm thinking that your prof probably means for you to take the informal way lessons get recorded in the real world and expand it into whatever format he/she is teaching you. So I wouldn't get hung up on whether it is a whole plan as you've been taught. Just find three different good ideas that could fit within one unit of study - say matter and energy or George Washington or nutrition -- and add to the description any of the missing elements that your prof expects to see on your lesson plan.     Yep yep! THIS! Integrated cross-curricular themes are totally the way to go -- the way I love to teach anyway but definitely the way they teach you in college and professors expect to see.....at least that's the way it was when I was in teacher training 18 years ago!!

    Is there a reason it has to be online? Most of the lessons I got were from books I either bought or got from the college library. Most colleges have a wide selection of lesson books that you can browse through.

    I also second the Thinkfinity website. You could also try the National Education Association website for resources. I think they have a lesson database and a page with a list of resources.

    Pinterest is an amazing site for finding blogs with lessons. It takes a while to really catch on to who to follow, but once you do you end up finding a ton of jems. I've found a bunch of lessons for art that way.

    Oh wow, thanks for all of your responses! I guess i should have stayed up later last night to see all of these replies sooner. Thank you guys soo much!!

    Basically i've been trying to find an actual lesson plan with the objective, materials, procedure, assessment, etc all written out. I've found a TON of fun activities that could be done in the procedure, or as an assessment, but we have to find an actual formal lesson plan, and I think that's why I'm having such a hard time finding one!

    I was also thinking the election, or something along those lines would be fun to do.

    But now I'll go through all of these links and try to find something, so thank you SO SO much everyone!!! :smile:
