Starting an exercise program

Hi. I'm new to the site and I just re-started my weight loss plan for the millionth time. I always get discouraged and frustrated after a week or so and quit. I'm ready to be fully committed and I really want to start exercising. The problem is that I am SO out of shape. I always end up feeling so badly while I'm exercising or so sore later that I quit. Is there anything that you could suggest that is good for a beginner? Something that gets you moving but doesn't really kill you? I need to start slow and build up. Maybe once I get in better shape I can exercise better. Thanks.

Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds. They are DVDs and all you need are the proper shoes. You can check them out from your local library to try them.0

I agree, walking is the best way to start, I personally prefer walking outside so there is something different to look at every time you go. Also, it is smart to ease into changing your lifestyle if you do too much too quickly you will want to quit for the millionth and one time0

I have to agree with the walking too. At 250 lbs a year ago last October I started walking a half mile, which took me 30-45 minutes (pushing my daughter in the stroller) and last October ended up walking my first 1/2 marathon at a speed equivalent to 4 mph. I also lost 32 lbs within that time. I love to walk, it clears my head and is good for me.0

Definitely start walking a mile a day. It's a very light workout, and should only take you about 30 mins. If you've got cold weather blues, check out your local community facilities (malls, schools, etc) that offer a place to walk. It is cold & snowy here, so I go to my local mall and walk 3 laps, which equals a mile.
Best investment I did to jump start my exercise plan was invest in a Wii. I got Wii Fit Plus, Biggest Loser, and Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum 2010. WF+ was a great starter! In fact, I can't wait to tell my diabetes doc at my next check up that I lost all this weight playing video games! After a couple of months, WF+ wasn't cutting it for me anymore, so I started doing Biggest Loser. I tried JM 2010 once, early on in my regime, but it was too tough for me. Once BL is no longer a challenge, I am off to give Jill a run for her money!

Walking outside is a great idea, especially if your weather is around mid forties or more. I work out in the gym 3 days a week, and at home twice a week. I keep a workout video so that I wont talk myself out of exercising just because I want to stay in lol. Right now Im doing The Biggest Loser Cardio Max, which is great because it has 3 levels.
But on the weekends, I always take at least an hour walk. Well, I just started this last week, so my plan is to increase the time i walk every few weeks.
Keep your workouts fun and add variety, I've found that helps a lot. Good luck, and congratulations on deciding to lead a healthier life!0 -
