I'm feeling so guilty

I had my first session with a personal trainer today and I'm feeling so guilty. I think I feel guilty because of the extra money that's going out to her. But I NEED help and haven't been able to get it from anyone. I need someone to push me. Plus it took me away from my family this evening because I wanted to have her after work so that I'm motivating myself to exercise during my workweek as well (I work 4 10's, get up at 5:30am so I'm exahusted after). I hope I can get over the guilt. I know I need someone to push me.

Don't feel guilty! If you're taking advantage of what the trainer has to offer, and doing your best, and will feel better about yourself, you and your family are going to be far better off in the future. I imagine that, once you get the motivation and training that you need, you won't need the trainer for very long. Best of luck to you!

Why are you feeling guilty about hiring someone who specializes in training people, to train you?

I have spent most of my adulthood feeling guilty for stealing any time away from my family. But it's not my family that is wanting to get fit, feel better and wanting to stay healthy.

Stick with it, it's important for YOU!

I miss my PT. She is the only thing that kept me going. She taught me so much.

unfortunately her contract with my gym ran out so she went on to do other things.

since we no longer have pt sessions, yes I have more money but I have less motivation and succession.

Mostly because it's expensive. I don't know many people who make over $30 an hour...

What good are you to your family if you're unhappy with your body and unhealthy? It's selfish of you to think that your family would want a miserable woman in their house right now when the happy woman is just months away.

I don't think that's unreasonable by any means.

Additionally, think of the value you are getting out of it. If the trainer is GOOD, he or she will be preparing you to get in shape, and provide you with some of the tools for that. That's worth WAY more than $30/hour.

I think it's mostly because of my husband's reaction. He gets pissy when I spend MORE time away from home during my work week since we have two children he's home with all day.

I feel this way when I pay my trainer every month. But the help he's given me has been priceless. $120 is a small price to pay every month to save my life. <3

Very true. And I LOVE my trainer. Before I had my second daughter I took her bootcamp class twice a week and she kicks *kitten*. If bootcamp was still offered at night I'd take it but there aren't any classes at my gym at night.

    Hmmmm...

So I work 25 hours a week and spend 20 hours at school and 10 hours of research work a week plus studying and an hour commute to and from school.

And I'm still trying to eat healthy and workout

You can't make excuses. You just have to put your health first. Good on you for getting a trainer to help you :)

1 this is about YOU not your family... 2. Be selfish about it and have that personal trainer and don't feel guilty for wanting it :)

I agree^^^ it'll be the best investment of your life. Where else can 30 bucks save your life, make you look better, make you feel better, ensure your long term health and (to be honest) make you feel like a BAMF? All that for 30 bucks? That's the deal of a lifetime!!!!!

On a side note, learn all the workouts and then later on just go about them yourself or with a friend, use what they taught you and you won't need to buy any more sessions if you don't want to

I understand the need for somebody to push you. I have always been like that. Even during sports growing up, and then the Army in my late teens, early 20's. Fortunately, I have my brother doing this with me right now, so we are pushing each other.

Although, I'm pretty sure that I'm at the point now that I'm so desperate to lose the weight, I could probably do it on my own, even without my brother's help.

True, true. I think another plus is that we're both training for the same event (Tought Mudder) so she knows what kind of movements and such I need better than I do.

I'm an at home Dad too and I don't like to share my wife with society, but if she wanted to be out to make herself happy, it would make me happy knowing that she's going to be happier.

Now, on the contrary though, I am a HSP and I am very insecure with myself. So I may feel inferior to my wife's trainer if HE had a better body than me. So the problem may not be that you're away from the house, but instead maybe it's a "Sookie is mine!" ownership thing. Men are very territorial with our women; which only gets in the way when we don't know how to satisfy them.

My bet is he just wants a break from the hard work of being home. Just make it up to him some how and it should all balance out.

I hope so. I always get up early with the kiddos the days I'm off, cook, do most of the cleaning, etc. I know he gets frustrated staying home every day.

Does it help when I say, my PT costs me 40 Australian $ an hour?

If you feel comfortable with her, if she pushes you and you push yourself and if she helps you if you have any other problems nutritional wise, then go for it.

Take it as a hobby kind of thing, if nothing else helps...

Being home is a job. Maybe it's mentality changing time for him. If he hates being home, maybe he needs a job change.
