NSV - I CAN DO BOY PUSHUPS!!!

Okay, well, that's it really... lol

I managed 3 sets of 10 without falling on my face! Of course, still some room for improvement (go lower, bring my feet closer together) but I DID THEM!!!

Pullin' a self high five right now!

That's awesome! I recently graduated from wall pushups to girl pushups. I can't wait until I can do boy pushups! I'm happy for you!

Great job; how did you get there?

Well, it's taken me a LONG time! I have always had pretty good lower body strength, but my upper body, despite best efforts, always stayed too weak to support me in push up form (fyi I am 6'1 and 197 lbs!). I could do girl pushups, but mens were just too tough!

I started the New Rules of Lifting for Women weightlifting program, and noticed that they said if you need to modify your pushup to do it using benches or step or even a kitchen counter or a wall, and to work your way down. They did not advocate doing women's push ups. So, I started doing them on a weight bench, then a lower bench, then a step, and now - VOILA! I am on the floor, hands and toes, and I can do 'em!!!

Of course, I have been doing some upper body weight work as well, which has helped I am sure.

Thanks for all of the congrats!!!

Great job! I can do three sets of 10 reps now but they are the girly ones :embarassed: although my form is pretty good.

How long did it take you to progress to boy push ups?

The quote thing didn't work so I had to quote you myself

"I started the New Rules of Lifting for Women weightlifting program, and noticed that they said if you need to modify your pushup to do it using benches or step or even a kitchen counter or a wall, and to work your way down. Great tip! I might try them on my step bench tomorrow.

    Brilliant!!!
I ran my first 5K on Wednesday, so I can only imagine how 3 sets of boy pushup feel. But I imagine "bloody amazing"!!

Fantastic NSV, they are so hard to do. Do you notice that by doing them you are also working out your abs as well? I always did girl push ups and really noticed my abs engaging when I started doing boy push ups.
