OMG we need a PMS smiley  My office drives me nuts. They want to have a pot luck for EVERYTHING. Oh it's labor day! POTLUCK! It's so and so's 3rd wedding! POTLUCK! A former co worker is coming by to say hello! POTLUCK! It's a day that ends with day! POTLUCK!

Anyone else? I don't usually even participate anymore. I get really sick of hearing that I should just endulge since I am "so skinny". Um no.....you should stop endulging because that is the reason you are all morbidly obese. :noway:

End of rant. Yes, I am a ***** today. But only today, I swear. :flowerforyou:

(I work in healthcare....another reason it is super annoying.)

Seriously we have a potluck about 2-3 times a month. And don't even get me started on the cakes cookies and donuts. Then they cry to me that they are overweight and ask me for fitness advice. :/

There is always someone bringing some sort of sweet calorie dense food to our office. It's to the point now that when the inform me of it, the statement always starts out "I know you won't eat any of it, but I brought (insert food here) today if you want some. Just reply "no thanks"!

We get a lot of treats & sweets, and I have a friend who's a caterer, so she brings in some pretty awesome food.

I try to stay away.....and if I do indulge, I just take a bit. LIke the nummy ORZO salad my caterer friend made for an inservice yesterday........that was my lunch today!

Yep that's what I do. I kinda feel bad for never participating (I will for certain occasions)...but I'm just not interested.

I have no idea what potluck is. I do work in an office full of women who are keen to bring in cake/biscuits/chocolates. The fridge at work is ready to burst from all the goodies and one woman has been told to stop acting like a feeder. She's always bringing stuff in but then refuses to eat it 'because she's trying to lose weight', ignoring the fact that there are three more of us other than her trying to do the same.
  • We are having one at my work TOMORROW!

    Funny you say that!

Where everyone brings a dish to share. It's usually themed.

Ha! Whatcha gonna bring???? Bring celery sticks!
  • My office is across from the kitchen....argh I feel your pain! My door has been closed this week to keep the food out! Now I must admit though that overall this is a pretty health conscious office and our potlucks do usually result in a ton of healthy options.......but seriously, who brought the brownies?

My office has a crapload of potlucks. I'm really starting to despise it..

My co-workers love to eat, (Several are easily obese) and they try to insist that you try what they bring.. It's really hard to keep turning them down politely.. I'm at the point where I wanna say to them

"Look for the one thousandth time! I'm on a DIET! Since obviously your not familiar with the concept I'll explain it to you. A diet is when you watch what you eat so you can drop weight and look/feel better. It's the exact opposite of what you do!"

Even worse is that most of my cowokers bring in extra food from home to share almost on a daily basis... Right now there is a chocolate cake sitting there.. Not sure why my coworkers baked an extra cake but there it is..

Glad I am not alone. I thought this would get ugly. I'm glad so far it hasn't! A simple rant feels good sometimes!

My work does not have potlucks... but they buy a LOT of food.

Meeting? Donuts, Panera, Subway, Rita's (Italian Ice), etc
Inservice day? Breakfast, lunch, AND each separate meeting (all 8 this last time) has drinks, snacks and candy.

When I was first hired, I had to go to orientation and the woman from HR told me, "don't worry about food, we'll feed you. That's the way we get people to come to things around here. Well, that and free T-shirts." :noway:

    Yeah... it's crazy!

I work for a sports team and 90% of our employees have been thin and active all their lives so they can eat anything that they desire! This makes for a food happy office as well. Not to mention our owner spoils us with providing snacks ever morning!

Guess who he has made in charge of the snack closet and buying the snacks! Yep, this girl! The only girl in the office stuggling with her weight and you have me buy cookies, cakes, chips and so on! Since my recent lifestyle change I have been refusing to by the junk and am now supplying the office with fruit cups, granola bars, oatmeal, protein bars, mixed non-salted nuts and so on.

I have co-workers constantly mentioning to me "as i am putting out snacks" gosh if I was in charge of the closet I would be as big as a house...well gee thanks for the reminder! LOL....

    I know the feeling!

Hahahaha... we aren't that food-centric... but it does seem like people bring in baked goods all the time... which of course I have a MASSIVE sweet tooth that has a super hard time resisting... here is a clue, I don't. I have to stay a hermit in my cube if I want to avoid the brownies or cookies that magically appear in the break room... I think I need to filter a coworkers emails as well so I don't see them.

My work is the opposite....it seems like no one ever eats! I eat the most often of anyone there. I think they all wait til they go home to eat. I actually wish we could have more potlucks of healthy food. Veggie soup, spinach salad, maybe some fruit and a light dessert. (I should suggest this) gonna go do that now!

My work doesn't do potlucks, but they have luncheons and get catering all the time. Sometimes they surprise us with donuts, bagels, etc. People bring in food sometimes as well. All very unhealthy food. When they get catering for meetings, it's not just sandwiches. They get salad, bread, main dish, dessert, soda. It's crazy. Yesterday someone brought in homegrown green beans and today it was tomatoes, so that was a nice change. I've seen people get tons of weight after getting a job here. Luckily I'm vegan, so I easily avoid all of the bad stuff. On occasion when I feel like being nice, I will bring in some kind of healthy homemade banana bread or something.
  • I work in a nursing home and people (residents families, doctors that come in, hospice) is always bringing in candy, donuts, cookies, and other junk, and now when we have inservices, they offer cookies... why not healthy options?? a treat can be good and still be healthy, right!?
  • We use to...but since I was the one doing all the cooking and baking, it has come to a standstill. I'm going to look for some "good" snack food to bring so they'll quit whining. LOL Anybody have any recipes to share?

Yes. Potlucks all the time. Donuts at meetings. Bagels at meetings. Cakes all the time. They had a cake yesterday for one of our volunteers (she has been here for 9 years)...I didn't take any but...honestly, all the temptation is getting kinda old.

My office has a ton of perks because it's a small office. No potlucks, but the sales manager is always buying lunch for us from panera bread/ruby tuesdays/jimmy johns/bob evans/pizza, the owner brings in fresh bagels and donuts from some bakery several times a week. Also on everyones birthdays, our operations manager buys a chocolate cake from a local bakery for us all to share, and we all go in together and eat a piece at the same time....(i make them cut me a half of a slice lol) The owner also keeps the break room stocked with chips, coke (diet and regular...i touch neither), cookies, mini candy bars, m&ms, nuts, random gift baskets of fancy snacks that he's gotten from customers, etc. It's REALLY hard not to much on things when everytime you go to the break room to fill up your water bottle, you're bombarded with m&ms and doritos...i'm good about the chips, but those m&ms...they're my vice. I guess everyone else has no problem with it (nobody else is really overweight there, or at least not significantly), but everyone else can control themselves. I have a REALLY hard time with sweets, and everytime I see them, I get REALLY hungry and crave them. It's tough. #firstworldproblems...lol
