to day i did a 3 1/2 mile hike to see a waterfall i have a cheap HRM that you wear on your wrist is it possible that i burned 1664 calories? that seems crazy to me but it was a HIKE i was sweating my but off and my poor dog was having a hard time too.

    doubt it, is it possible? I guess so, but unless you're talking straight up a mountain, or some other really really nasty hike, I would tend to doubt it. How long did it take you?

    it was about 1 hr 45 min. most the way was uphill getting there.

    1 45 round trip? I'd say 1 45 round trip is closer to 1000 kcal for you @ 165lbs. Both ways, and yeah the HRM is probably right.

    I don't know, it's really tough to tell. I mean, when I'm at around 80% Max HR I get about 1100 per hour. But it's hard to keep the heart rate at that level for almost 2 hours constantly. It's possible, but I doubt seriously you burned that much for that kind of workout, but without actually knowing your exertion rate, I can't say for sure.

    I hike all the time...........It depends on terrain, It is possible. I love to hike and burn tons of calories..........its not a walk in the park!
