Swimming laps and calories

Hi...I've been swimming laps. I've been doing 30 minutes of what seems like vigorous swimming, and about 5-10 minutes of light to moderate swimming 3ish days a week. It seems to burn a lot of calories. So much that I'm at a net loss for the day before dinner. Does this sound right? I've lost 5 pounds in about two weeks, and I love that this is working. I just had no idea that swimming burned off so many calories as compared to, say, jogging. Has anyone else had this experience?

Yes it's correct. And the colder the water the more you'll burn!

I used to be a year round swimmer. It definitely brings the good side of your curves out (; Are you just doing freestyle? I'd check out breast, back, and butterfly to work some different muscles. (Butterfly is really tough to do until you get the motions of it, but it will really work your arms)

Not really. I wore my HRM & while I did burn calories, it wasn't rocket high. How have you determined the calories burned?
