Hi everyone! My name is val ( will be posting my intro soon) and this is my fourth day into losing weight.
Aside from the obvious- no soda, bread, pasta, junk food- I'm having a bit of trouble and really lookin for some help
I'm 5'3". Weigh about 160 pounds. My goal weight is 115 pounds with no "deadline" to lose the weight.
My bmr is ( I think, considering all the online calculators I'm using say something different) is 1545.
I'd like to lose a pound a week
I've been reading online and there's so much conflicting info! Some tell you to stay away from certain foods, others praise the very same foods.
My question is this:
If I eat 1400 calories a day and burn between 400-700 calories in 5-7 days, will that show results?
Thank you very much to whomever answers!! I've been so confused

A calorie deficit will always show results .... There is a difference in my PERSONAL opinion b/w a good calorie like from veggies and a calorie from McDonalds.... Do what works for you though ... find what you like to eat that is also good for you and experiment with that then add a new ingredient ... Don't feel like you have to cut out foods cause some website says so ... make your own lifestyle change.0 -
I would encourage you NOT to diet. In other words learn how to eat what you like with control. People live on a "diet" rollercoaster because they cut stuff out, lose weight, then for some reason don't think they will gain it back even if they eat foods they like again.
Learn how to meet your daily macro/micro nutrients, stay in a decent calorie deficit and still try to keep foods you like to eat in your daily regimen. This should be a lifestyle change of calorie intake and not a total 180.

You've got to decide on a starting point and move on with it. It's going to take some time for you to learn where (calorically speaking) your body is going to lose weight.
I suggest www.1percentedge.com/ifcalc
All you need to worry about is the page where you enter your data.
Enter your age, sex, height and weight and the top number is your BMR. Focus on eating this every day for 2 weeks straight. Do not eat exercise calories back.
At the end of 2 weeks, step on the scale. Losing weight?
If not, take a good look at how accurately you're logging your food. Get a kitchen scale and instead of measuring with cups etc, do it by weight in grams. Most nutritional information labels have this information already available to you.0 -
what niner said.
no reason to cut out the foods you love. just eat less of them than you used to. make them fit in your day.
also, make sure to eat enough. this site works best when you net what you are supposed to. in other words, eat back a fair portion of what you burned working out.0 -
Your BMR is what your body needs to survive if you were doing nothing but sleeping in the bed 24 a day. You should never eat below your BMR.
For starters, you can shoot for just over that, and then eat back around half of your exercise calories.
Except for the protein, I would follow the recommendations that MFP gives you (eat more low-fat protein). That gives you something to follow while you learn the ins and outs of what your nutritional needs are - because while a calorie is always just calorie, not all calories are created equal.
Set your loss goal at 1 pound a week. Over estimate your calories and under estimate your exercise!
And learn everything you can about good healthy food and nutrition!
I can give you some good links to things to read if you like.
That is my sage advise!0 -

I would caution you against your proposed calorie plan. You really should try to net at least 1200 calories per day. That means either eating 1400 calories and burning less than 200 with exercise or eating 1600 calories and burning less than 400. You get the picture and it's your choice. Netting less than 1200 can lead to feeling hungry and deprived and that often leads to failure.
Some people, especially those without a deadline, have success by simply figuring out how many net calories they'd need to eat to maintain their goal weight and following that plan from the start. You'll lose weight since it's less than what is needed to maintain your current weight, but you probably won't lose as quickly. Since this is a "forever" change, it helps you to figure out what makes you happy and keeps you satisfied on a daily basis. The other benefit is learning that the changes are sustainable for the long run and reducing the risk that you'll gain it all back once you do reach your goal.
Whichever you decide, weigh yourself once per week. At the end of two weeks, see where you stand. Losing weight? Keep doing what you're doing. Not losing or not losing enough? Make some adjustments. Keep in mind that one pound per week or more might be possible at first, but as you get closer to your goal weight, you won't lose as quickly. You will probably also need to make adjustments in your calorie deficit so you can continue to lose weight.
Best of luck to you!0 -
I want to add some thing. As u doing you will get your goal definitely.
If you want burn your calories more then i will suggest you. Some exercise are like swimming, cycling, running.
These will help you in burn calories.0 -
Eat healthy normal foods in reasonable amounts...even bread and pasta....I just had French toast for breakfast and will stay easily within my plans today. Don't waste calories on junk, though. Exercise...cardio and strength both are good for you. If you are careful to log everything, and are patient and honest with yourself....you will do great! You can do this!0
