Fitbit and extra calories

I have searched and can't quite see the answer, so forgive me if it's been asked and answered before........

I'm 4 weeks in and got my Fitbit 2 weeks ago. Admittedly, I'm really only using it as a fancy pedometer at the moment until I work out exactly how it's supposed to help me.

I have my MFP setting at lightly active, and any additional exercise I do (which is currently limited to a couple of short walks a week) I log.
I'm 6'2, 255lbs and am supposed to be eating 2400 cals, which I struggle to get to, without making bad choices.

However, my Fitbit keeps posting additional calories adjustments for me, sometimes a couple of hundred, sometimes 800 for the day. There's no way I'm doing enough to possibly be able to eat those extra.
I average around 12,000 steps a day, without my walk.

Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere?

Sounds right to me. I have 400 something fitbit calories today and 7,000 something steps. You don't have to eat the fitbit calories if you don't want to.

Sedentary is 2000 steps a day, so if you are set to sedentary anything above 2000 steps the fitbit will "give" you extra exercise calories to eat. So it sounds right to me.

sorry, lightly active is about 5000 steps a day. Moderately active is 7500 steps a day, and acitve is 10000. Hope this helps.

Make sure you don't enter activities into the Fitbit site. If you enter anything unusual over here, it's ok. If you enter stuff on their site, you could get bad numbers. I've had the same thing happen and I've been eating the calories. I've also seen my weight drop. I think we sometimes don't realize that moving is exercise and maybe we do need the calories to keep the body going.
