Exactly how big is the recommended "glass" of water?

8 cups = 64oz
8 glasses(12oz) = 96

Thanks!

I learned in physiology that its ~2000 mL, so 8 cups :) .

Here is the breakdown of why 8 cups is the recommended amount. Keep in mind - these are just average amounts while at rest.

+ 200 ml/day (water gained from metabolic production)
-350 ml/day (water lost through skin)
    -350ml/day (water lost through lungs)
-100 ml/day (water lost through sweat)
-100 ml/day (water lost through feces)
    -1400ml/day (water lost through urine)

I know here in Australia they recommend 2 litres/8 glasses per day.

    2 L = 2000 mL

    2000 / 8 = 250

    250 mL = 1 cup

By this logic I would say that the recommended amount in one serving is literally a cup, not a big glass.

generally when they say "8 cups" they mean 8 oz cups...

I follow the reccomendation of 1/2 to 1 oz per pound of body weight... so I drink 140-300oz per day... ( 3-8 L )depending on my level of activity... I drink to thirst though... and on hot extremely active days 8 liters doesn't seem like enough :)
