Finally-Not the Fat Sister-Age 58

Next week I will be seeing my mother, brother, and sisters at the same time for the first time in over 15 years (I'm not estranged and have seen all of them fairly regularly, but we are scattered across the country). Regardless of how they and the passage of time have treated them, beautiful to me always, I have changed and I declare I am not the fat sister this time!
By all measures but one (that dang BMI that says I am slightly overweight), I am in great physical shape -- not to worry anymore about belly fat, waist to hip ratio, cholesterol, heart stamina, blood pressure, cancer (hit my five year recovery mark in August), weight (have lost over 100 pounds net in the last 15 years). I am ever strengthening my core (dealing with a ruptured spinal disk from last May) and challenging myself physically. I generally look and feel good for my age.
My mother "worried" about my weight compared to the others for many, many years. She may or may not worry this time around. Who knows and though I care about my mother; in regard to food, weight and health generally; who cares about her opinion this time?.

 My mom was not known for thinking-before-she-talked. So, I say, Congrats! Keep doing what you're doing, and let your light shine.0

Thanks. I think this is the biggest NSV of my health journey, so I am pumped.0

Have fun that day and keep in mind that this is first and foremost for you!! But it's awesomeness to finally not be the 'fat-sis' anymore !!!

Congratulations. Your comments about the hip ratio cholesterol etc it is such an achievement and so worth having. Looking good is great, but being healthy is so important and worthwhile.0

I can totally relate to 'the fat sister' thing...am working on it, congrats on getting there.0

I've always been the heavier sister...it's annoying! Congratulations...I'm hoping to join the "we can wear each other's clothes" club by Xmas! Congratulations on your success (p.s....don't tell her...but you're prettier too!)0

Congragtulations. Enjoy the time with your family.
I can relate as well.........another fat sister here. I hope to surprise them all during the holidays this year.0 -
That's so awesome!!
I have 4 brothers... and they've never had weight issues, not really. It's unfortunately a genetic thing with the women in my family. BUT - I can't wait to see the next pictures... as everytime I see photos now? Well, let's just say that earlier today - my brother was showing me an old family photo and I thought - I'd look different now! I'm sooooo excited to get to a point where I won't necessarily be "the fat sister."
So, I am vicariously living through you for a moment... Thanks! And - Congrats... that's soooo awesome!0 -
congrats and cherish it. I await when I can feel like I fit in part of my family (i'm half asian and everyone is fairly skinny)0

Congrats on your perseverance. you'll love fab when you see your family. i'm so impressed with all that you have overcome that you still have a great outlook on life. You are amazing well done.0

You have accomplished alot, and you should be proud. What others think or say are secondary to how you let it make you feel or allow it to control you. Be satisfied in knowing that you are moving in the right direction.......0

Congratulations on your achievement :flowerforyou: Have fun with the family!0

Good for you!!!
I can relate too. I'm the youngest of us 4 sisters and I've always been the biggest one in the room when we get together, and they'd joke about about me being the 'little' sister. Not any more!
It will be interesting to see how they relate to you now, if it's any different from when you were the biggest one in the room.0 -
Thanks all. Not being the fat sister is in my attitude and self-perception. I know my sisters will be as beautiful as ever and I wish them excellent physical health. I just have new and different adjectives and scripts for me -- healthy, strong, successful.0

Congaratulations on the weight loss but especially on the cancer recovery. That is awesome! I was diagnosed with CML on April 1 2010 (April Fool's Day). The medication I was prescribed put me into remission right away and have been in remission ever since. It is great to hear other success stories!0

Wow! You've accomplished so much! Have fun with your family!0
