I've just started with MFP and I am having trouble balancing my calories and proteins. Primarily, it's the proteins that are throwing me. I'm supposed to get 45 grams of protein per day. After researching the internet I found the recommendation of 0.5-0.8 g/kg. At the low end of that scale, it comes out to 55 gm/protein per day by my calculations. I know this will change as I become more active, but I am ALWAYS over on my protein and slightly under on my calories. Suggestions?

It doesn't matter that you're over your protein, you should be. Unless you have some medical condition of course.
The protein goal is not a limit to stay under, it's just the least amout of protein you should eat everyday. If you go over, GREAT :D

The default MFP % of calories from protein seems rather low to me. For me it suggested that 15% of my calories should come from protein. After reading this well-written article (written by someone with a PhD in nutrition!) on protein consumption, I upped my % calories from protein to 25%.

"Some subjects ate a diet with 18 percent of their total calories coming from protein, which is pretty close to the USDA’s recommended amount. A second group upped their protein intake to 28 percent.

    What happened?

The higher-protein group showed better health across the board."

The author also suggests that protein can help people lose weight simply due to the higher thermic effect of food (TEF) of protein compared to other calorie sources.
