Shin splints

I am almost finished with insanity and would like to begin jogging after I finish the program. Today i went for a very short walk/run, about 3/4 of a mile and my shins are killing me! I was warmed up before I started. I had just finished insanity's max interval plyo, and I made sure to stretch really well after. Any advice, suggestions? Thanks!

I found that after a couple of times of pavement jogging, I no longer had shin splints.0

OMG I get those, hurt like hell, Have no idea how to help with this. Sorry. Maybe investing in a real good running shoe will help.0

I'm glad I saw this! Can somebody clarify what a shin splint actually feels like please?
I'm totally unsure whether I have shin splints or something else - I run five days a week for 30 minutes (on a treadmill?) and my shoes are specialised for running. The pain is in both legs, like a pulling pain on the inner side of my shin between the bone and the calf muscle? And when I touch my shin it feels like someone's kicked the bone?0 -
That's what they feel like, not sure what they are from though. I had those when I first started working out again0

I also do insanity with alternating running every other day, I also suffer from shin splints. I have been doing some research on chi running you can look it up on youtube, it seems to help. It has to do with your heel strike and stride, when I run on pavement I can do it correctly went five miles with no shin splints, on treadmill can't seem to get stride right and end up with shin splints. Concentrate on your length of stride and landing on foot squarely making sure your heel doesn't hit first. Hope this was helpful.0

i had them pretty bad from running. i was advised to rest for 2 weeks. have you got flat feet? i have had to have insoles in my trainers to support the bridge of my feet and now im golden maybe it may be the same thing0

Many people get shin splints, for many different reasons. I always get them when starting back running after a brief or not so brief hiatus. It may be from doing too much too fast. I would definitely say listen to your body. Start off with low mileage. Make sure you warm up very well, have been fitted for the proper shoes, and stretch well after you run. If you're having shin splints, ice them after each run and up to a few more times a day if needed. Ice really makes a difference! I wear compression sleeves when my shins are hurting and they are amazing for me. They really got rid of the shin splints all together. Do toe taps also, that helps a lot. You can google the exercise. Good luck to you! I know shin splints are awful.0

I get them too, they can be excruciating! I got new shoes and I am still getting them. I think I am going to try the compression sleeve.0
