New HRM + Insanity. Accurate read?

I just bought a heart rate monitor for the first time. It's a Timex. I just did the Insanity Fit Test and Cardio Abs (2 of their shorter videos). My HRM is saying I burned 764 calories! Which is much higer then I expected. So basically my question is: Other Insanity + HRM doers/users, does this seem like an accurate read to you?

if you did them back to back, I would say that seems accurate enough. Because as you know, that Insanity is no joke.

Today it said I burned 882 doing plyometric cardio circuit. Hard to believe. Maybe my settings are wrong. I'm going to mess with it some .

Another Question. My HRM only takes my weight into account, and not my height or age. Are these other factors important to accuracy?

Here is a link that shows you the formulas for measuring heart rate. I use Garmin 310xt and it asked for my age, height, weight. So yes, I would say that matters.
Last time I did plyometric, I burned 577 calories according to my HRM. Are you wetting the contacts on your strap before putting it on?
  • Age and fitness level are the biggest factors in the HRM caloric burn estimate. I'm half-way through Month 2 and the burn you're seeing is definitely in the right ballpark.

I'm inclined to agree. I can't put in 110% on certain exercises due to injury, so I slow down a bit on those.

Thought I was the only one!!! But I'm a fatty so that has more to do with it than prior injuries!!

Yes they are. Those numbers a bit high. I burn about 400-425 during the 45min Plyo workouts, I use a Polar Ft4 with a chest strap.

what he said I have 4 days left of the max month and average around 800 to 1100 depending on workout and how hard I push :)

You generally need at least height for the HRM to be accurate. I got a timex before and all my readings were off the charts! I returned it the next day and got a Polar FT4.

When I do Insanity my burns are between 350-415 per session.

Does it have anything to do with fitness level? I mean, would someone who has weight to lose or is relatively out of shape burn more calories than someone who doesn't?

Yes, I've noticed that the longer I've done it, the lower the burns. But the thing with Insanity, is that you make it as hard as you want!

i do think weight, age and fitness level has a lot to do with it. I'm pretty small, in good shape and take very few rests and keep pace with the workout. There isn't much I can do to push harder. Unfortunately all that means my burn is going to be less :(

Thanks for the advice everyone. I returned my timex and got the Polar FT4 :) My reading were a bit too high.
