Best DVD workouts?

Due to various circumstances I am unable to use the gym. In addition, the downtown air isn't great for running or cycling in, so I avoid that. Can anyone recommend a workout regimen on DVD? I'm at a point where I really need to incorporate some moderate exercise throughout my week AT HOME. Thanks.

  • I haven't personally used it but a group of women at my work are using the Jillian Michael's 30 day Burn?
They all love it and have been bragging about how their clothes fit so much better.

I've got a stack of Jillian DVDs on my tv, been using them for a couple of years with good results. She has a variety of workouts, various lengths and types, so helps with the boredom and enables you to mix things up during the week. I've also started using Nike Training Club on my phone - it's free app with a ton of great workouts from 15 to 45 minutes.

Bob Harper's DVDs are good too, and really tough. Check your library, you can check them out and try before you buy.
  • Do you ladies know if Jillian Michael's 30 Day Burn requires any exercise equipment? I don't really want to invest in a bunch of exercise equipment if I can avoid it. I prefer something along the lines of JUST a physical workout (ie. aerobics, tae bo, Insanity, etc)?

You know what i LOVED when I lost 65lbs two years ago? Wii Fit, and Carmen Electra's aerobic striptease. NOT as intense as a gym or whatnot, but they're fun, and you can increase intensity...and having fun working out is what will keep you sticking to it.

30 Day Shred you need some handweights. I LOOOVE all her dvd's and they are super challenging, but get results. I love No Trouble Zones. It's like a double 30 Day Shred!

That sounds FUN! Wish I had a Wii but we have a PS3 instead, and I'm not sure that console has an exercise game.. :(

my wii broke a while ago, but im at a gym now...i miss it.
Also, *****cat Dolls has a dvd, and it's a pretty high-energy workout.
Sorry, i found "regular" dvds mind-numbing and drudgery, cant recommend any personally...a friend did lose 30lbs on p90x though.

If you want to really kick it up and do something intense, I would suggest P90X or Insanity.
    :) goodluck!!

This requires a stability bal, but the 10-Minute Solutions Pilates Ball DVD is great. You can do it in 10-minute increments depending on how much time you have. this really leans me out.

Tae Bo DVDs are great too, especially on days I want more than just 20 minutes for a workout. I use the Cardio and Ab ones that I bought from Best Buy. Requires no equipment.

Angles, Lines & Curves is a nice very long DVD that is toning. Similar to ballet, yoga and Pilates. It's slow, but challenging. Requires nothing other than a mat, if you prefer.

Obviously you can also invest in P90X or Insanity. I don't know if it requires equipment, but all your friends will want to borrow it when you're done LOL.

My favorite dvd is "Weight Watchers Next Move: 5 Intermediate Workouts". It has 5 workouts that are only 20 minutes in length. It is great especially when I don't have much time. You think that isn't much time to get in a good workout, but I am always sore the next day. All you need are some light or medium hand weights depending on your fitness level.

Insanity and Insanity Asylum - hard, but so worth the effort! You'll need some space though. Cathe's workouts are good too but not as hard. They helped me lose the 60 pounds I put on during my pregnancy. Collagevideo.com (not affiliated) has clips of her videos and many others if you want to take a look and find out what equipment you will need before making the decision to buy.

It is AWESOME! I swear by it. You get the benefits of both cardio and weight training in one workout. In a 25 minute workout, I burn 226+ calories. My arms and legs shake after it. Feels great and really works you out.

Which DVD is it? I see different ones by GoFit supposedly, and a Bob Harper one for 54 minutes?

There are literally thousands of fitness DVDs ..... the most effective ones are the ones you WILL DO regularly.

collagevideo.com has tons of video clips & reviews. This site will tell you fitness level, impact level, equipment needed, etc. I go here first .... always

Kelly Coffey Meyers 30 Minutes to Fitness are my favorites. This is a whole series, weights or kickboxing, or bootcamp, or step ...... lots to choose from. Each DVD has 2 workouts plus premixes to keep it fresh. Her personality is great ... she doesn't talk down to you & is not syrupy sweet either.
  • I have been doing Jillian Michaels - RI30 and currently am doing Killer Buns & thighs and 6 Week 6 Pack.

Here is a link to a helpful site for dvds that give you some idea of the type of exercise and how long you do it. http://www.collagevideo.com/main.aspx
  • one that I haven't personally started yet, but do have friends working on is DDP Yoga. when I get my dvds I'll get back with you for a first hand assesment. I don't want to be trying to explain on second hand info. lol.

will link website if you would be interested in checking it yourself.
