Recovering from back surgery

It's been a LONNNNNG road to recovery for me.

After being IN bed for 4 months, I finally had my surgery, then began recovery. I could not even walk to my mailbox without having to take a rest.

Over the past year, I've rehabbed myself back using water aerobics and very gentle stretching yoga. A lot of tears and pain and frustration was endured, too...............but.........

Yesterday, I rode my bike on a hard, hilly 10 mile ride!

PROUD of SELF!

I seem to really hold water as my muscles try to remember what they're here for. After a hard workout day, my weight can increase up to 4lbs! :(

It's disheartening sometimes. I know it's not *real* but it's also hard to see.

Advice?

Thanks so much!

Karen

i would imagine that your muscles have atrophied quite a bit during your recovery. if you were very active and worked out a lot before it is going to take you a while to build that muscle back up to where you once were. and you are right our bodies retain that water after a hard work out to repair and protect. i know the day after i lift heavy is not a good day to step on the scale
