Has anyone read the book ? Is the basic idea that you fast for 16 hrs. Is it worth buying?

fasting for 16 hours would RUIN me personally....I eat something light every 2-4 hours, just so I can go about my day...0

Try look up intermittent fasting....
Essentially same thing, lots of info available online if that your thing.
However a good book always adds things and presents them in a complete fashion instead of you having to search yourself.
I guess just what your looking for.... I get some of my info online, however there is sometimes when a book that I can ALWAYS go back to or reference is handy...

You are confusing Eat Stop Eat with Leangains. Eat Stop Eat (ESE) is a 24 hour fast from after supper one night to supper the next where you eat a normal supper of say 500 or so calories. You do this one or two times a week. You eat at maintenance the other days using the fasting days to establish your deficit. I have done it for quite a while. The e-book in my opinion is worth the money, but then I purchased it. This approach works for me because it allows me great flexibility in eating, and going 24 hours without food while being able to drink all the non-caloric drinks I want, usually primarily water and a little green tea, does not bother me at all. I am rarely hungry during that 24 hour period unlike when I ate at a constant deficit trying to do the 5-6 small meals a day. Doing that left me unsatisfied, hungry and cranky. Also during my fasts I find I generally have lots of energy, not to mention my workouts fasted are regularly some of my best. Will this fit with everyone, no. For many it will work just fine, will fit with the way their body works and is a perfectly healthy way to eat which is one of the things the e-book would make clear. You would probably be helped more asking the question in the intermittent fasting group as many, perhaps the majority, here don't understand intermittent fasting and seem to want to equate it to an eating disorder.0

The only fasting I do is from about 8/9 in the evening till I get up in the morning. For me, that works.0

I haven't bought the book but I've read online about it and it seems to have a lot of health benefits. I've tried it quite a few times myself and I was surprised at how much easier it was than I thought it would be. I usually fast for 36 hours actually.0

Personally, I subscribe to the Eat Exercise Eat program. And the only "fast" that interests me is my running speed.
Eat right, exercise hard, and you don't need some complicated, convoluted system to try to trick your body into becoming more fit.0 -

I agree with this entirely.
I also bought the eBook. It has lots of good information, and I'm glad I purchased it. -- Although, it is not necessary. I just like to know the "why's" and "how's" of everything. I had great success with this method of IF in the past, and I've just recently readopted it to get myself back on track. I definitely agree that the typical day-to-day deficit made me cranky and miserable. I love the freedom I have with IF.
Definitely not for everyone (especially the haters), but the proof is in the pudding, as they say. :flowerforyou:0 -

Good response Gary. Frankly I find it much more simple than a daily deficit. For many people they could ignore counting calories doing this. This does not remove exercise, it pretty much requires it. As far as eating more, that is the false belief people have about this. I eat plenty. There are days I have difficulty eating all I need to because I was so used to eating at a deficit, but now on my feeding days I eat at maintenance, and yes I am losing weight.

See that is my problem with the whole MFP system. It is a**-backwards. You should exercise to reward your body with endorphins and strength, not to punish it for what you've eaten/make room to eat more.0 -

I really enjoyed this post. I struggled with the 5-6 small meals per day and was always bloated, hungry and counting down the time until my next meal. I started doing IF a little over 2 months ago and it balances me out perfectly. I have a 6-7 hour eating window (used to be 8) and I break my fast after my weight training session. I have steadily progressed in all my lifts, in weight as well as volume. I'm enjoying a marked increase in my energy levels. And it's way easier to plan 2 large meals rather then fussing over 6 little guys. I like eating big and i'm not hungry anymore. It's also made me more productive. On the weekends, I have to keep busy until my eating window is open so my home is clean, clothes washed, food cooked, etc. Sunday is my cheat day. I get all this done then sit down to my favorite movie and my cheat meal is on hahaha love relaxing and knowing everything is done.
I usually don't share that I do IF because people still think it's some sort of weirdo starvation diet :ohwell:
I'm going to check out the ESE plan, sounds interesting.
