Exercise

I am planning on joining the YMCA and want to exercise on their equipment. I was wondering how many days I should go and for how long?

It all depends on where you are starting and what you want to do. You don't want to over-do it, and you want to do something you enjoy!

What are you doing for exercise right now? If nothing, take it slow for a couple of weeks (maybe 1-2 short visits per week). If you're already used to activity, you could go a little more often or for longer. Just ease into it!

Try to do a mix of strength training and cardio, for maximum results. Most YMCA's will show new members how to use the weight machines - definitely take advantage of that!!

    Have fun!
  • Listen to your body, warm up properly, learn to use the equipment correctly and stretch EVERYTIME you are done. :) Other than that, go as often as you feel you can!
  • I'm going to do this.

I'd recommend 3-4 times a week. If you get enough rest and recovery, try going 4-5. Listen to your body. If you are exhausted, then take an extra day of rest.
  • How long should I go?

talk to the personal trainer when you join (free one time service when you join). They will tell you how often you will need to workout in order to get to your goal. They will also set up a workout for you based on your abilities and you can go back and get that modified anytime (free service)
  • I have to pay to talk to a personal trainer and I don't have that kind of money.
  • I am going to call the YMCA tomorrow and see how much it cost to join.
