Hurricane Isaac stops the weight loss for a bit.....

I live in Slidell Louisiana. It is east of New Orleans. Most of you saw the weather reports on the news, possibly. Because of the storm, we didn't buy much groceries because we knew we would lose power and didn't know how long. We lost power tuesday or wednesday evening, can't remember and it was off for 27 hrs. So needless to say i couldn't eat properly or exercise. It was also just do darn hot in the house despite the bad weather outside and I for one did not want to eat. I think I ate only granola bars and pbj sandwiches(on wheat, lol). Even then i didn't eat much. So I probably am going to be at a stahl with weight loss for a bit. But can't fight mother nature.
September is off to a rocky start too. Some stores have opened back up but are not stocked fully. i couldn't get any meats or veggies at the supermarket today. The past few days we have had to eat out cuz of this. However, I tried to go with the most healthiest I could get on the menu. Tonight i got a salad, and last night i got a turkey sandwich on wheat from quiznos. Granted fast food is not the best choice but again due to the storm we don't have alot of food in the house. This is what i hate more than the storm. The after math. Stores not stocked up and some people still without power. There is a lake here in town that is about to overflow from all the rain from the storm and parts of town will be flooded again!!
Its frustrating but at least we are all ok. I just hate getting on a good streak with food choices and exercise and then something like this happens and you are put on hold so to speak. lol.

I live in Mississippi. Glad you are okay. Sometimes the best you can is all you can do. It could have been another Katrina. We lost power to, but it didn't stay off as long as yours. Glad you and your family are safe.0

What is unhealthy about peanut butter, jam and wheat bread or a fresh turkey sub? I ate canned raviolis for the 5 DAYS my power was out.0

I'm in Gonzales and I know how you feel. Between the hurricane, beginning of LSU football and the holiday I'm starting fresh tomorrow. I'm feeling defeated but hopeful for the future. We can get back on track!0

I just googled Mississippi, it's like an hour drive inland, can't you just make a little drive for groceries?0

Well sure, IF the roads aren't closed, flooded, caked with debris or have live elecric wires flapping about. Gosh, why didn't I think of just getting in my car and driving...0 -

Understandable. I'm considering moving out of hurricane city, this sucks0 -

Oh also if there are any gas stations open that actually have gasoline because they were sucked dry the two days before. I've been through a few of these, I know what its like.
Just letting you know the interstate was closed down in a lot of places and people can't even leave their houses.0 -
Girl, I am so glad you are okay, though.
I live on the MS Gulf Coast. We didn't lose power, but I kept thinking that we would at any moment. I had tree limbs down and a sink hole in my front yard. :ohwell:
As for the eating....we bought the usual foods, and now I need to work them into my lunches for the next several days. I happen to love vienna sausages even if they are not the healthiest food.
Hope things get better for you soon. We love Lousiana and watch the reports coming out of there daily. :flowerforyou:
As for moving, I would rather live here and go through hurricane season than live where there are earthquakes, tornadoes and blizzards.
At least, with hurricanes we have several days warning most of the time.0 -

Sometimes I think about moving back north then I remember the winter and say no thanks. You're right about having some warning though but it still sucks sitting in a 100 degree box because there's no AC.
Glad you made it through too. Is there anything you can do to fix the sink hole?0 -
@Rachel, the city is coming out tomorrow to work on it. It is close to their drain, thank goodness.
I know what you mean about the heat... after Katrina we slept outside in a tent just because it was too hot to sleep inside. 13 long hot nights! We had the generator running the fridge and freezer.
We did buy a couple of battery operated fans a few years ago, just in case.
But, thankfully, when my mother rebuilt after Katrina, she installed a huge generator that runs off natural gas. So, 30 seconds after the power goes out, it kicks on. Soooo, in the future we will be camping out in her living room.0 -
i grew up traveling cuz my dad was military. so i have lived in typhoons, hurricanes and earthquakes. it never gets easier though. lol. i mainly was raised in california. i am gonna live here until my daughter graduates school. she has 5 yrs left. after that i will decide. haha.0
