I'm going to be asking for a treadmill from my dear hubby as a Christmas gift. And would like to keep the price at $1000 or less.
Do you have any recommendations on the best treadmill I can buy for the money?
Thank you!

I got a Nordic Track on sale right BEFORE Thanksgiving last year for about $500-600 with delivery from a local Sears Homegoods store. We had to assemble it, but it wasn't that bad... definitely takes 2 people and a bit of patience though. It wasn't nearly as easy to assemble as the "14 easy" steps in the description would lead you to believe. (So you might want to pay the store to assemble it for you.) They went on sale the weekend of Black Friday too, but honestly the weeks before Thanksgiving were cheaper. It's been great so far. 0-10% incline, 0-10 mph, strong motor. Weight limit is 325 (I think) so hubby can use it too with room to spare. Has shock absorbency and a nice big tread belt so it works with both my small strides and his longer ones. iFit capable but I didn't pay for that connector (not worth it to me). I do like the built in speakers and AUX port for my MP3 player. This one didn't have a fan built in, but I just bought a $15 clip-on that works just fine.

Make a list of what features you really want and need. (aka at some point more horse power in the motor is just overkill. And 10mph is a 6 minute mile so unless you are a very competitive athlete you probably don't need the 12mph version.) Then just wait for a sale flyer to show up before the holidays with a treadmill that meets your needs at a price you are willing to pay from a brand or store you trust. At least that's what I did.

Edited to add: Not sure if this is the exact same one, but it's very close at least. http://www.nordictrack.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_-1_10301_12401_59002_183119

I have a Concept2 rowing machine which is awesome. They are extortionate to buy from new but we picked ours up for a bargain on Ebay, second hand.
  • Thanks for the recommendations! I never thought of just writing down the stuff that's important to me in a treadmill before going to the store! Seems so simple and makes the whole process less overwhelming! And a NordicTrack for that price...heck I'd put it together myself too!!

Ooo....I'll check on Ebay for local pick-up...again, never thought of that!

    Thanks again!!!
