Too much fiber?

Air pollution potential aside, is too much fiber a bad things? MFP shows a negative if you go over.

    Depends on how much you're talking about. MFP's setting is generally on the low side. You can go over it quite a lot, just increase slowly! :embarassed:

    I try for 25g a day. MFP had me eating something like 14g before I changed it in my settings.

    If you're eating way too much, I think you can begin to kind of stop yourself up, so to speak. I don't know at what point that would happen, sure it varies from person to person. But I can't imagine 25-30g would be a problem as long as you're drinking enough water to get it on through your system.

    Make sure that you try to eat both soluble and insoluble fiber and also be sure to drink plenty of water or you'll have a very negative affect from it. My tummy tends to hurt quite a bit when I eat more than I've been used to all of a sudden so increase slowly. I usually eat between 20-35 grams a day, depending on my meals.
  • I thought I read once that native Americans got 50 to 60 grams a day.
