Ok, so I know this sounds like a whiney baby but I have to vent it out. Started this journey AGAIN two weeks ago. First weigh in last week -8.2 lbs. So I continued..the gym 6 days per week. Before work at 4:30 AM. Tired ..still went...I went from doing nothing to 100 situps per day, 35 minutes on the treadmill, (incline 4.0 speed 3.2) and 10 minutes on the ellipitcal (mind you two weeks ago I barley finished 5). But then today week 2 weigh in... -1.4. Now I know I should be happy it was a loss and not a gain but it has been a hard struggle. Trying to figure out what to eat on a limited budget. Not eating with the rest of the family. I litterally got off the scale in tears. I thought it would be closer to 2.5 or 3. One of my friends said the second week is always the worst with the scale and that next week will be better...What are your thoughts?

Now, I just started 2 weeks ago also, so still getting used to MFP but when I was on weight watchers before....I had the same problem. The first week I lost 8 lbs, then the next week I barely lost anything. The woman told me that sometimes it takes a week or so when you are excercising, for your body to adjust to the excercising. I was working out 6 days a week, for 45 minutes, so I feel your pain....I was PISSED when I didn't see the results I wanted when I was working so hard. Not sure if this help any but I thought I would comment. :flowerforyou:0

The reason you can go 10 on the elliptical rather than 5 - and the reason you are feeling so much better? You've started building muscle which weighs more than fat. Your body is consuming fat and rebuilding to take the exercise. This is GOOD NEWS Because if not next week, the following week you'll see another nice drop. I'd be dieting for three months before I started to exercise January first. I had two weeks go by where I was spending over 30 minutes a day on the elliptical (and sweating up a storm!) with no weight drop - then last week I lost five pounds! It will start coming off soon you're on the right track!:drinker:0

I know, I went through the same thing. The second week I lost .2 - not even 1/2 a pound & I was working out hard! But the next week I lost like 4 lbs. Where you are working out, remember that you are working muscles too & you will be gaining muscle. You're getting more toned & the muscle will make your weight go up a bit, but then after a week or two, the weight will begin to drop. Just be patient & stick with it!0

I think that you are at the beginning of a lifelong journey. This takes time... we didn't get fat in 2 weeks, and we will not get healthy in 2 weeks.
You're not eating with the fam? So what are they eating - and what are you eating? I cook one meal for everybody, and wife and I eat a decent serving and the rest of the gang eats 3x as much, and that's fine. They're young and bulletproof, and we're older and,,, not.
Stick with it, it'll come. There'll be times when you'll work your butt off for a month and the scale won't budge and you'll pull your hair out - - but that's just how this goes. You're doing fine.
Love your sig line. Another great quote that's kind'a similar is: ""If you don't pass out at the finish line - you could've gone faster"".0 -

Everyone will usually see a big loss the first week and then it's drastically reduced after that. Mainly that is due to your sodium intake. You're shedding a lot of excess water weight if you're sodium is going down. 1.4 pounds a week is nothing to be unhappy about. It's weight loss at that pace that you will be able to maintain and keep off. Think of it as "hey, at least I went down instead of up!" Losing weight isn't easy, but you'll get there with a lot of hard work.
Good luck!0 -
I can talk from my own experience over the last 10 months. I keep the same intensity to my workouts no matter what the scale says. Some weeks I get on and lose 1 pound, some weeks nothing, and then some weeks 3 or 4. Your body is a machine, but it is a thinking machine. It will try to cope with what you are doing to it LOL
Just dont focus on the scale, weigh yourself less and dont let that be your only judge of your progress. Sometimes I feel like I am stuck, but then when i look back after a month I realize I have lost 8-10 pounds.. sometimes I am not even exactly sure when they came off, but they did.
Just dont give up... keep in mind it took a long time to put it on, and putting it on is easier than taking it off! This is a lifetime journey, so just keep going and when you look back a month from now, or three months from now, you WILL see significant progress, and all the hard work and exercise will have helped get you feeling better as well!
Good luck to you0 -
Its all in how you feel and how your clothes are fitting. The scale means NOTHING!!!
(thats what I tell myself everyday)
Keep it up your are doing a great job:)0
