Throat tight while exercising?

Hi all, the past two times I've done my workout about 5 minutes in my throat begins to feel tight and i have trouble breathing (or breathing feels wierd so I don't do it as well...I'm not sure if I actually am breathing less) This tight throat feeling has only happened to me once before on a hike so I doubt it is asthma related, I have no history of that.
Could it be seasonal allergies? Thoughts? I don't want my workouts to be ruined by a little tight throat!
(on a different but definitely related note, my roommate is sick...so she may have given me what she has, but I have no other symptoms and it only happens while working out, so I ruled that out)
Thanks!

could be exercise induced asthma. it's not really the same thing as regular asthma.
could also be allergic reaction based on temperature changes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cholinergic_urticaria) i get that when it's cold outside (like freezing or below) and i workout and start sweating. what helps with this is wearing proper clothing that's both going to keep you warm and breathable enough to wick the sweat away. luckily i moved to california and probably never have to deal with this issue again
but really you should see your doctor. throat constriction is bad because it can get bad enough that you dont get enough oxygeb0 -
Definitely go get yourself assessed for asthma. I have this myself. I was feeling tightness in my throat and chest a little further into my workout. I now have an albuterol inhaler that I puff before I work out and I'm okay.
Edit to add: See a doctor who is an asthma and allergy specialist since allergies are linked to asthma anyway. Kill two birds with one stone!0 -
This is good that i saw this post because i had the same thing while i was running and it was outside and yesterday i got short of breath on my workout.... another thing to add to my list to ask the doc about0
