Difference in gym and home scale?

Hi, I just got a new digital scale. I've been going off the one from the gym and it weighs me in at around 121 or 2. The new one I just got, however, is weighing me in at 125. Which one should I go off of? The gym one is one of the psuedo-doctor officeish ones with counter balances that pull the lever where as the home scale is the weight watchers digital one you have to tap in the center before weighing yourself.

Thanks.

  • All scales are different. In addition, we weigh differently at different times of the day. The best time to weigh yourself is first thing in the morning right after your morning pee and before you eat or drink anything. However, as long as you weigh yourself at the same time each day, even that doesn't really matter.

I suggest you pick one scale and go by that scale. It doesn't really matter which as long as you are consistent. For me, I probably would go with the gym because I like the number better...

Every scale is different and the time of day you weigh can make a difference. So just pick wich one you will use and weigh in at the same time each day.

Did you weigh yourself on both scales on the same day (without putting any more food or water into your body between weighs)?

If not, it's likely just normal fluctuation (I can fluctuate up to 1.5kg between days where I weigh myself just after I wake up and have been to the bathroom, and up to 2kg throughout the same day due to the weight of the food and drink I'm consuming).

If yes, you could weigh on both over a period of time and see if there's any pattern and make your decision then.

the last 2 weeks Ive been using the gym scales even though at the start it weighed me 6lb heavier!!! thing is thats the one my trainer reads from and so it makes sense to stick to theirs. I still use the ones at home because I cant help myself but only ever record my official weight from the gyms scale.
  • Hi,

My home scale makes me one pound heavier than the one at the gym. I do weigh myself every morning (because I am a little silly) at home but only weigh myself once a week at the gym. I use the one at the gym to update my log. I chose to use the gym one because it tells me my fat % etc, which I find quite helpful.
