The Fitness Trainers’ Role

A trainer should be knowledgeable about their job. What qualifies a trainer in helping another person maintain a healthier life? Does your trainer have a degree or some form of certification stating that it’s ok to put your life in their hands?
Assisting the client is crucial but doing the work for them is unacceptable. Pushing your client may be needed but listening to them may even be a better tool. The client must understand why they want to change their lifestyle; is it a potential health reason, wanting to compete in a fitness/bodybuilding show, or just wanting to feel better about themselves. A trainer must be honest, no sugar coating about any question being asked. “Am I too fat, can I lose 50lbs. in one month?” Give your clients realistic goals, something achievable. In most cases, the client already knows the answer and they just want reassurance.
The trainer should be committed to their client, rather it is 30 minutes or an hour; you belong to them. We should always monitor their progress; taking the good with the bad. Embrace your client as they are doing the same for you.

I love my personal trainer. She has several qualifications, she always pushes and encourages me and gives me realistic goals. I love working out with her and she was actually the one showing me MFP!

I agree! I'm glad I am a trainer, but there are a few bad ones in my area who cast a shadow over some of us good ones.
