Ridiculously Quick and Easy Black Bean Cakes (Burgers)

Because I'm lazy and also on a very strict budget, I am ALL about easy, quick dinners with minimal ingredients. Here's a black bean cake (not the chocolately kind) that makes a great dinner!
1 can black beans
2 Tbsp ketchup
1 Tbsp mustard (any kind will do...I use Dijon)
1/4 cup onion, chopped very fine
1 packet instant oatmeal
Seasonings to taste
Rinse and drain the black beans well. Mash with a fork to get lumpy, pasty consistency. Add in ketchup, mustard, onion (and/or any other finely chopped veggies you'd like), oatmeal and seasoning and mix well. Form 4 separate patties. Cook patties in pan set to medium, 5 minutes for each side. Eat as is or stick it in a hamburger bun.
It's really hard to screw these up. Go ahead and play with different ingredients to see what you like. I didn't drain the beans very well last time so they were less held-together, but still delicious!

They sound yummy. I'm making mixed bean enchiladas for tea with a tin of beans0

What size packet of instant oatmeal? I'm in the UK and the brands are probably different, an idea of weight would help...0

Bump - that does sound easy, and I love black beans!0

These sound delicious! Do you find that they fall apart easily, or will they hold up to be eaten in a bun?0

What else do you make? I'm on a very strict budget as well, and always on the look out for something new.0 -
I might have to try these. Cheesecake factory makes the best veggie burgers I've ever tasted out of black beans and, I think, brown rice. I actually prefer them to beef burgers and I used to be all about getting giant hamburgers when I went out to eat.0

another yummy recipe to try...think I might try this out for lunch!!

looking good, I will give them a try. If you make a lot you can freeze them and take them out in days you don't have the time for cooking0

From the UK, need a translation please
By "oatmeal" do you mean whole, rolled porridge oats? Or the ground up stuff?0 -
