when running for weight loss what is the best method for the most impact on weight loss..I.E. long runs at slower pace, medium runs at moderate pace, shorter runs at elevated pace etc..? please give me your feed back...Keith

It's pretty simple really, longer runs burn more. The difference in speed makes very little effect on calorie burn and faster just means you stop sooner.0

The book racing weight talks about it and has different plans. I think they all work in different ways, depending on what you have the time for. I don't think it's as much running, as it is eating correctly for what you did running.0

I'm not an expert, just repeating things I've read:
When you burn calories, it's always a mix of carbs and fat. At a slow pace you burn 50/50 while at a fast pace you burn more like 70 (carbs) / 30 (fat). The answer over the years has been that you'll burn a higher percentage of fat at a slow speed. However, if you burn a significantly higher amount of total calories at a fast pace, your actual number of fat calories might be higher. For instance, if you burn 500 calories in an hour at a slow pace you'll burn around 250 cal from fat and 250 cal from carbs. At a fast pace, if you can burn 1000 calories in 45 minutes you'll burn about 300 cal from fat and 700 cal from carbs. In that scenario, you burn more fat in a shorter amount of time.
I've heard that interval training is also great for burning fat. Some say you continue burning calories for longer after you finish your workout if you do interval training.
In my own experience I find I can do a much longer workout at a medium pace and burn far more total calories that way.0 -
In general, the calorie burn is going to be a function of the distance you run and not the pace. Say, for example, you burn an average 100 calories per mile. If you run a 12 minute mile, you can burn 500 calories in an hour by running 5 miles. I f you run a 5 minute mile, you can burn 500 calories in 25 minutes by running 5 miles. Of course, this is over simplified and there are other factors that can come into play that can make subtle differences, but in general, this is the way it goes.0
