Hi all,
I was wanting to purchase a HRM in the near future.
Which brand/model would you all recommend to give the more accurate results? I know I need one with the chest monitor but other than that I am pretty clueless.
Thanks for your help

Polar is a great brand. the FT4 and FT7 are great for those who want basic HRMs to count calories. They both use a chest strap. I use the FT4 and love it. It costed $65.

I used to have a polar but I hated having to send it in just to have the batteries replaced. When it finally died I got a timex on amazon and it works just as well and I can replace the battery myself!

If you search the posts, you'll find a lot of posts about the Polae and Garmin and Timex. I have a Timex Ironman that I love. I had thought about getting a Polar but I work with a few people that have Timex so I was able to see it in person before getting it which was huge for me. I love it and would recommend it to anyone

I'm very pleased with the Polar FT7. Works great for me, in fact my entire family has this, all 4 of us.

Got ours at Amazon and saved a bit.

I bought the Polar FT7. You can replace the batteries in both the watch and the transmitter yourself now (Not all polar models have this feature so do your research). I really like my FT7, cost around $70 online.

I have the Polar FT4. I bought mine off of Amazon for $62 (or something like that) and have been using it 5-6x/week for the past 6 months. I love it! I had a Mio one prior to that and hated it. My sister has a Polar one that was twice the price of mine, but it does nothing additional, and we literally have the same chest strap/transmitter (the only difference is the watch portion).

I have also heard good things about Garmin ones if you want more functionality, like distances, etc. However many people run with smartphones, which have apps for that.
  • I just got the polar ft4 and got it on drugstore.com and it was only $60 with shipping and tax. I can replace my own batteries and all seems great with it so far.

I just got my Polar FT7 in the mail today, I have yet to go for a run with it because I'm working a split shift today and i'll be too tired but it was super easy to set up and already i love it to bits. Mine was $104 on Amazon, but I'm in Canada so that might be why.
  • I've had my Polar FT-40 for a week now, and it's great!
  • Thanks for all the replies.

Are all these HRM being mentioned waterproof? I sweat...A LOT...and I'm worried that I'll ruin any HRM I may get because I am pretty soaked by the time I finish my workouts. I think I killed my FitBit that way...it isn't nearly as accurate as it used to be and I think that is from all my sweat that would be soaked up by my bra or top and eventually make its way to the FitBit clipped to the bra or front of my shirt. :grumble:
