I have done body pump. I LOVE IT!!! it is challenging and fun. One thing to remember since cardio is involved to go a little lower in weights (trust me after you have pushed that bar around for as many reps as you do, you will feel it.) I think I get a great burn. I say go for it.

I love Body Pump! It's an awesome class. It's a good way to learn proper form for deadlifts and squats so you can apply that knowledge to the weight room.

I try and take a Body Pump class once a week. I really prefer doing cardio in a group setting if I can. I usually burn around 400 in this class.

Same! But... when I was doing it, I thought it was helping me build muscle (like regular lifting. I was new back then....). Just as long as you aren't under the impression that you're going to come out of that class ripped, it's a great class to get into. It's more cardio than resistance. And by that I mean- since it is lower weights and higher reps, it is conditioning your muscles for just that. It is more endurance training than lifting. If you're goal is muscle mass, body pump won't get you there. It'll help burn fat and add slight tone to muscle, but not build. For that you need HEAVY weights for 8-12 reps for 2-4 sets. That said, I really enjoyed that class. Helped me shed the weight :drinker:

(Just make sure you're using good form, it's easy to hurt yourself in that class if you're new. Also, I'd start with light weights until you learn the "routines".)

Thanks everyone! I ordered it from beach body and am looking forward to it. I think I've got a good muscle base already from P90X2 and then finishing Insanity. Lost some fat, gained some muscle and now want to loose some more fat. I had heard that it was more of strength endurance conditioning/mix of cardio. Definitely looking forward to it.

I don't know for everybody else, but my LMP set came with a total of 17.5 kg of weights (2*5kg, 2*2.5kg, 2*1.25kg), which I think is good for the chest but for the legs and back I could use a bit more. Moreover, whenever the trainers in the video use separate weights, say for the shoulders, I use dumbbells which I think have a better grip.

A final note: I'm doing Insanity's Insane Abs instead of LMP hard core abs, for I find that more challenging.

rogerbosch I do the same with the separate weights, I use free weights because grip. I had to buy extra weight because I needed more after doing the program for awhile when doing legs.

jackflak I highly recommend Les Mills PUMP! Love the music, the trainers. Thought I wouldn't like the several trainer set up but it's actually nice. Keeps things interesting. I definitely feel accomplished when I push myself through the workout. It does have 1-2 dvd's for cardio. Sports Attack and Combat! But those are probably cake for you since you've done Insanity. Good luck!
  • Doing it twice a week. Great way to maintain muscle while losing weight.

Great all over workout too (would take 3 x gym sessions to cover all areas properly.)

Is also low impact unlike Attack which i also do.

Once you've got form sorted then keep increasing the weight even if not able to finish all the reps. (unless pure cardio goals)

Once I have my weight down I will switch to a proper weights program but at the moment love the cardio aspect of it.
