Can contraceptive pills cause anxiety?

I have been on Diane35ED for almost 10 years, due to skin issues. I have had the worst anxiety attacks and random depressive phases.

Last week I ran out and simply could not afford to buy anymore, been without them for a week... In this time my BP has gone from 138/85 to 118/80 and my RHR has gone from 88 to 60. I have not had any anxiety attacks since not taking it, I used to have them daily. I used to have the worst sleeping issues, it wouldn't take me long to fall asleep but I would wake up at least once an hour. The past few nights, I have not woke up once.

Could this be the cause?? And what would I be best off doing? If I go off them, my skin will go absolutely horrible again. But the anxiety is so bad. Would changing to a different type of contraceptive pill have different effects, maybe?

I would check the side effects labeled with that specific contraceptive. They are all different. I know certain ones can cause mood swings, but I'm not entirely sure about depression or anxiety attacks.

I had one contraceptive pill that really messed with my emotions (to the point that I felt suicidal a few times), made me gain weight and had other horrible side effects. I didn't realise at the time that any of those things were related to the pill, but when my GP changed it for another one my mental state completely changed. I'd definitely talk to your Dr about changing to another one.

On another note, it might be worth cutting wheat from your diet to see if that helps your skin - I used to have all kinds of trouble with my skin, until I changed to a wheat-free diet (which also fixed a whole host of other problems).

Hope everything works out for you! :)

I don't have problems anymore, soon as I stop taking it I do though.
I know what the problem is with my skin, I spent thousands of dollars on doctors and dermatologists and different creams and tablets, trust me..

Wow! Interesting article - a trip to the Dr is definitely in order then! I hope they can prescribe you another one that doesn't have such nasty side-effects without it bothering your skin. :) [It's such a nightmare sometimes - you take one medicine to cure one problem and it causes another one! If only medical science was straight-forward!]
