I recently got a juicer! Anyone have good tips, tricks or recipes?

  • Here's a few tips. Not really recipes. Just things I found that worked and didn't work.

I try to add as many veggies I can w/o it tasting bad and then I stick to 1-2 small servings of fruit. Are you doing it for health/nutrition reasons or weight loss? I was doing it to get some natural sources of vitamins I don't get from my regular diet. Usually because I don't like those foods.

In a juicer you can add all kinds of stuff you'd never eat and not taste it. I recommend Kale, Watercres, swiss chard, (small doses of that, it carries a strong flavor and so does celery.) Don't go too crazy with broccoli either. Just get creative.

The reason why I asked if it was for weight loss is because my juice drinks w/ flax seed etc can quickly reach 300 - 400 cal's and they don't leave me full. I try to eat my veggies more lately but I'll occasionally do a juice drink. I had one this morning where I juiced 1/2 grapefruit, 1/2 an apple, 1/2 a cucumber, a 1/2 bag of carrots and then I poured the juice in the blender with spinach, watercress and kale. You'll learn quickly what juices well and what doesn't. I just couldn't validate spending the money I was spending on organic fruits & veggies if out of the whole bunch of spinach I got 1/4 cup of juice. Make sense?
I like to juice things that have alot of juice and blend the rest. You can also add ice. It doesn't taste good at room temp. Sometimes I make for a whole week, clean up the mess and freeze them in individual cups. Then I throw the whole frozen block in the blender and add some aloe vera juice or coconut water to losen it up.

Just watch your calories that's all. They add up fast.

good advice especially with the storage! try not to over produce your juice! as soon as you juice the oxidation process begins. best real of thumb when storing your juicing if making extra is never more than you will consume within 24 hours and to store all juice in air tight glass containers such as mason jars. besides that little tid bit! GET CREATIVE!!! I don't always enjoy all the juices I make especially the one I had this afternoon *barf noise* but lesson learned and I'm happy with the fact I kept it down! :) tomorrow I'll try something different! just have fun with it!

I keep it to about 3 or 4 foods. Usually 3.

Fold your greens before putting them into the juicer.

If your juicer causes foam you can skim it off or strain it with a fine mesh strainer or a nut milk bag.

Say you are juicing cuke, celery, and parsley... don't add all the cuke at once. Alternate the veggies when adding them because the courser or more fibrous will push the softer ones through better.

I am mostly a green juicer but I will add some fruit.

Today I did a celery, cucumber, cilantro with lemon.

Yesterday it was celery, cucumber with parsley.

Hi there! I've had my juicer for just a few days, but I love it so far. I feel great and have tons of energy. Actually, both my husband and i both felt like we had a "buzz" after drinking our first green juice. I'm still eating some food in the morning or at night, but I only have juice during the day. I've noticed that I really want fruit in the morning, so I'll make sweeter drinks like carrot/strawberries, or this morning I juiced an apple, pear, orange, strawberries, and some celery. During the day, I have mostly green veggies, like kale, spinach, celery, cucumbers, peppers, and zucchini, but I add lemon, ginger, and apples to my drinks. I was surprised how much I like everything, since I usually only like most veggies when they are cooked or covered in dressing! Have fun with your juicer!
