How do you wanna feel when you're 70? 80? 90...100??

I've been seeing a lot of "Do I have to Work out" questions OR "I don't and I'm not going to" statements.

Ok...we can go rounds about cardio vs weight lifting
Beachbody VS Jillian Michaels
etc etc etc....

In my opinion: if you are engaging in physical activity that gets your muscles engaged, your lungs working and your heart beat elevated - AWESOME. GOOD FOR YOU!

You dont' HAVE to join a gym and lift weights. Ok, so you don't want to build muscle - that's fine but think about this:
Besides the OUTSIDE effects of aging there is a lot going on internally that we usually don't consider when we are younger. There have been countless studies done in regards to the aging process and the elderly in regards to those who exercise and those who don't. The benefits of exercise go beyond having a nice butt!

So before you get all, "I'm not going to conform to society's standards" blah blah blah
Do some research
Think about how you wanna feel in 10years, 20years....50years

I am seventy.....When I workout at the gym...I feel 100% better, than when I don't bother...Watching my food intake brings down my b/p and my knees don't ache as much...Also  being able to get out and socialize is a big plus...Your mind needs a workout too!

    That is FANTASTIC Annie!
My grandpa is a little older than you, 4 heart attacks at a YOUNG AGE
He works out daily, follows the doctor's orders to a T!

With a family history of diabetes, heart disease and alzheimer's disease ... I'm trying to get into a good habit of exercise NOW

Who said anything about needing to go to a gym to build strength? All I need is a floor and something to grab onto above my head and I'm set!

My grandfather turned 85 last month, still live with my grandmother(83) on the second floor of a flat (no elevator) He walks every day an hour and goes to the billiarts club, my grandmother is indonesian and she stretches every day.

For me, if you read my profile, and don't look so far ahead, i live per 10 years and i am happy that i made the 30 and hoping to reach the 40 and so on.

My Mother-in-Law is 86 and has kept fit including teaching water aerobics at the Y. Kept her in pretty good health. I am in my 60s and last year felt like life was over. Everything hurt! Well 50 lbs gone and I feel better than I have in a long time. Can do stuff that I couldn't without feeling like I was dying. I don't work out at a gym but I do walk on most days at least an hour now. Husband is late 60s and the same goes for him. His blood pressure has gone down and no more meds for high choresterol. It's like a new lease on life. (stuff still hurts, arthritis)

How do I want to feel at 100? Chewy on the inside, crispy on the outside. Like a cookie.

I work out at home as well...I can't afford the gym and quite frankly, I like the privacy of being at home. haha

@Lois: Great job losing 50lbs! That is fantastic!

My mom is 52 - horrible health...cannot function without pain meds and needs to lose AT LEAST 50, but 80 would be ultimate goal. She's doing south beach, per her doctor's recommendation. Already I have had to tell her to NOT over think everything. Did they say you could eat it? Then eat it...right now it's not even about counting calories for her but getting the crap out of her diet.

40 is the new 20, don't you know?

As for me, I'm in the best shape of my life at nearly 33 years old. If I met myself at 20, I could kick my old self's butt and then outrun him easily when he chased me. All thanks to diet and exercise.

    I want to feel fantastic.

I also never want to look older than 25. That's possible, right?

I will have to say that I think that a LOT of aging is mental. There are a lot of physical aspects to it but I'm watching this process right now with one of my parents. My parents were young parents but as one of them is now approaching 50, they're becoming a bit more... old. And not for any reason other than they think they should be. It's perplexing to watch. I hope I never grow up, that's just straight up depressing.

I'm 53. I have lost 24lbs andaiming for another 14lbs. I walk every day and jog most days (do Pooch 2 5 K with my middle aged Doberman!). I am fitter than I have been for years and beat the bejabus out of all the youngesters at Zumba class  I did the 30 day shred back to back recently too and kept on it when most of the younger contemporaries in the group I was with on here gave up!

This time last year I was 24lbs heavier, got breathless doing the walks I now run easily and my knees and hips hurt like hell. I just woke up one morning and decided enough was enough. My poor Mum, God rest her soul, was dead at 59 as a direct result of being obese and immobile (pulmonary embolism) I DO NOT intend to go the same way!

Good luck to us all on our journeys  I wanna feel this good at 70/80/90/100 or be as good as I can possibly be and I am prepared to put the work in to make it happen.
