Hello everyone, just a quick question for heart rate monitor users.. do you stop the monitor as soon as u are done working out?
I ask because i noticed i burn a lot of calories until about 10-15 minutes post workout.. while i walk around and drink my water (by a lot i mean its anywhere from 0-100cals) if i count those as 'workout cals burned' would that be cheating? :indifferent:

just a question out of curiousity.. so be nice! :blushing:

I stop mine at the end of my workout or run. I figure any after-burn effect is a bonus.

I stop mine immediately after the workout. I don't count warm-ups, rest periods, or cool-down/stretch. Better to error on the conservative side.

No you HRM tells you you burn a lot, but you don't. Your HRM bases calories burned on intensity and it gauges intensity on HR as a % of max HR, and oxygen uptake. When you are done and your HR is up your intensity is nil but the HRM assumes it is higher, which means it will over estimate the burn when you really are not burning much more than if you didn't just finish working out.

I stop it when it approaches bottom of my range, 134, I also deduct calories that would have been burned at rest for the time spent exercising.

Ditto. My heart rate isn't high enough during my warm-up and cool-down, so I don't count those calories. Those are just normal calories burned.

I do this aswell..wait for it to get to the bottom of my range. But then I usually dont eat all my calories anyway.so the few extra there isnt a big deal for me

I seriously just asked my husband this yesterday! He said stop when work out is complete. I was HOPING he'd say stop it when your heartrate is back to normal

But yeah, I stop it as soon as I'm done.

I keep it on when I'm stretching, and turn it off about 5-10 minutes after that. I have it on during the entire workout, including warm up.

But I don't eat back all my exercise calories, usually less than half...

My cycle instructor told us to leave it on for a while after our class *shrug*
