Pasta help please!
So I'm craving pasta like crazy, but everything I find is super high in calories! So my question is, has anyone stumbled across a reasonably 'healthy', low calorie pasta in Australia? OR, does anyone make their own pasta dough and have a have a healthy twist on it?
I make my own sauces which are pretty low calorie, but when I add the pasta it just blows it through the roof!
So any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!

:flowerforyou: Spaghetti squash indeed is a great substitute. . or you can get shirataki noodles ( just make sure that you rinse them first) Both are extremely low calorie.
My favorite is buckwheat noodles, but they are 200 cals for 2 ounces, so I just eat less.
Good luck.:bigsmile:0 -
I use spaghetti squash. Google how to cook in microwave...it is fast and I swear it hardly has a taste of its own. it just takes on the flavor of whatever sauce you out on it. I had it tonight w spaghetti sauce (63 cals for 1.5 cups of squash) while the rest of my family had the same sauce with cheese ravioli (290 cals!!!). Can also top w sauteed veggies and a bit of parmesan, or whatever you can dream up. I hope this is available in your neck of the woods...it is amazing!0

I did spaghetti squash the other night and YUMMY! Not to mention you can have 2 cups for less than half the calories of 1 cup of pasta. You also get lots of dietary fiber. Doesn't taste just like pasta but it is pretty good.0

I like to julienne the outer flesh & skin of yellow and green zucchini then cook it for a couple minutes in what ever sauce or broth. It tastes great, is healthy and pretty.0

Whole wheat pasta is not bad, just be sure to measure amounts. A good pesto sauce is not bad either.....with basil or sun dried tomatoes, olive oil, nuts, Parmesan cheese. When I did low carb I would take some zucchini, peel, slice in linguini or fettuccine sized slices, apply salt to draw out all the water, squeeze and drain, then cook like fresh pasta noodles and put my favorite sauce on. Delicious!0

Hey Ya. Coming in from New Zealand. I was craving pasta too so I decided to make a big lasagne. I love pasta and potatoes and fresh white bread I am def struggling because these are the things I crave.
This might work for you..... I get my pasta fix from this...
Chicken Pesto Vege Lasagne
San Remo - Wholemeal Lasagne Pasta Sheets
Mediterranean - Basil Pesto With Cashews and Parmesan Chunky Dip
Dolmio - Bechamel Lasagne - Pasta Bake
Generic - Whole Button Mushrooms,
Generic - Pumpkin - Baked/Roasted (No Fat Added)
Generic - Fresh Raw Chopped Onion,
Brink's (Nz) - Chicken Breast,
Spinach
I slice up the pumpkin pretty thin and layer it sorta on top of the pasta sheets.
I mix some of the pesto in with the bechamel sauce and chuck that one one layer thats where your flavour comes from.
Other than that the only other thing i do is I put some boiling water in the dish too just to make sure the past is cooked and soft!
I hope that helps hit that pasta craving! for me it comes in at about 400 cals per serve! its pretty tasty!0 -

I recently discovered the awesomeness of Fiber Gourmet pasta. high in fiber, and 130 cals for 2 ounces (or ~200 for 3 ounces, regular pasta being ~300/3oz). It's pretty good too flavour wise. I'm in Vancouver, and have to order it online. I buy from lowcarbcanada.com
Not sure if you can get it in australia since it's an american thing.....but check it out.0 -

I just find out the spaghetti squash! I tried to find out more, but I haven't heard for this product in Greece (where I live). I need more information about this.
Is this made from pumpkins? In Greece we call little pumpkins the zucchini. They all mean... the same (greek) to me! My father has TONS of pumpkins that look like spaghetti squash in his garden, and we use them to make soups and pies. Can I make from them spaghetti ? Please help me with this. I looked around internet and I couldn't found any help.0 -

Have you considered egg noodles as an alternative? They're only about 175cal per 100g.0
