Mississippi and Alabama travel advice?

Going to be visiting New Orleans in October. Looking to rent a car for a couple days and drive around Mississippi and Alabama. Any suggestions on places to check out? Would like to spend the night in a city/town with a decent night/pub life. Any input appreciated.

Ok, this is really Anti-MFP, but if you find yourself near Decatur Alabama, you HAVE to go to Big Bob's Barbecue.

That restaurant has won eleven straight BBQ World Championships for a reason. AWESOME place!
  • I'm going to be doing some eating on this trip for sure!!! I've accepted the fact I may gain ten pounds on vacation and I'm totally col with that. I work hard maintaining my body so I don't feel bad let 'er rip once in a while.

    Thanks for the tip!!

If you're down from the 7th - 14th there's CruisntheCoast which is a huge car show. Mobile also has Bayfest which is a huge music based block party, all genre's are pretty much covered.

In reference to Alabama: I lived in Huntsville for a spell, check out the NASA Space Center there. Lots of awesome exhibits, you can see one of the rockets from I-565.

When you order iced tea in most southern US states, it will come as "sweet tea" unless you specify that you want it unsweetened! Sweet tea has at least as much sugar as a regular soda.

Biloxi has all of the casinos which all have clubs and bars in them and Gulfport is actually stepping it up in the downtown area. East of Biloxi is Ocean Springs, which is a fun little coastal town. They have a great bar and restaurant scene on Government Street! A bunch of little bars and places that you can walk from one to the other. Also on another note, if you like BBQ check out "The Shed BBQ", fun atmosphere with live music and some ridiculous food! Have fun on your trip!
