Travel for a living

I must eat at restaurants and eat packaged, travel friendly foods at least 3-4 days per week because of my job. It is shocking how bad many restaurant foods are for you, and not just fast food either! There are a few states that require restaurants to post the calories on the menu and I love that! There are some restaurants that do so willingly and that is a good thing.
What are some of your favorite meals or items you choose when you go out to eat (please include the name of the restaurant)?
I have noticed that Denny's now has FitFare Meals in every section of their menu and I've tried a few already, not bad! (Under 550 cal.)
Panera Bread Co. posts their calories, although not much there to stay below 500-600 calories per meal.
Even the evil McDonald's has posted some menu items with calories.
Subway is a good choice for me as well as Au Bon Pain.

Hmmm... it might be easier if you post some of the restaurants that you frequent.
At deli type places such as Panera, I often do their pick a pair option and pair a healthier sandwich or soup with salad. Leaving dressing off a salad (easy for me if it has fruit or a lot of flavors) or even reducing the dressing saves a lot of calories.
Fast food -- grilled chicken is usually your best bet (even though it is usually loaded with sodium!)
I've done more eating out than I should have lately, so you are welcome to look at my food diary for ideas!
Do you have to always eat at restaurants while traveling? I did that for a bit while working and it does get really hard. Even if you could pack some breakfast food (oatmeal or fruit/cheese or even peanut butter) that would be healthier than eating out at restaurants for 3 meals a day.0 -
I do carry and use oatmeal and granola bars for breakfast, but generally am stuck eating restaurant foods (at various airports around the country) for 1-2 meals each day of work.
I usually eat Subway Roast Beef on Flatbread 6", but am getting bored! So I'll get the Au Bon PAin Roast Beef or Turkey sandwich or wrap. Then I get bored and will try a salad, grilled chicken of course, not much dressing, but get bored again! I am looking for any special places or specific restaurant menu items that you enjoy.0 -
I travelled for work for 6 years and I feel your pain. I either got bored of eating the exact same thing so it would be healthy or I ate way too many calories when I couldn't handle another grilled chicken meal.
Some suggestions:
Texas Roadhouse - 6 oz Sirloin, Side Salad, and Veggies. This would definitely be your biggest meal of the day, but if you had a light breakfast and lunch shouldn't make you go over your limit. Stay away from the baked potato though, as they roll them in bacon grease and salt before baking.
Wendy's - Baked Potato plain then pour their chili on top of it. This is one of my favorite fast food meals in the winter time.
Mongolian Grills are also a great place to eat. They bring brown rice to the table, but you get to pick out the exact meats and veggies you want them to stir fry for you. As well as the sauce used. This way you can choose the healthiest options that go on the grill. In my area my favorite is BD's Mongolian Grill, but I'm not sure if they have them all over the country.0
