Quitting smoking AND losing weight?

Hi,
I have been a smoker for over ten years and have finally decided to quit for good. I smoked my last cigarette six days ago and have been clean since - no patches, no gum, no massive problems apart from the odd little craving which passes within a few minutes.
What I'm concerned about is it possibly affecting my weight loss. I joined MFP about a month ago and have lost 4lbs so far, slow but steady. I can admit to having used cigarettes in the past to stave off hunger pangs - has anybody else been through the same thing? How did you stop yourself eating more to compensate for no cigarettes? I don't want to replace cigarettes with gum or anything like that because it's just a new habit - I just wondered what other peoples' experiences were. Any tips?

Drinking water is supposed to relieve hunger pangs as hunger/thirst pangs can be confused with each other.0

First off, BRAVO for choosing to quit smoking AND continue getting to a healthier weight. That's definitely a tough one. I was a two pack a day smoker, started when I was just 14. I quite over 10 years ago, and am so happy I did! I know you say you don't want to replace it with another item, like food...but, that's what I did. I used sugar free jolly ranchers. It was something I could suck on until the craving or nervous situation subsided.
Perhaps a healthier choice might be carrots or broccoli..something crunchy.
Either way, again, bravo to you, and best wishes to you success in both.

Thanks! Carrots might be a good one.
And I do definitely feel hungrier when I haven't drunk enough water - sometimes it just sneaks up on you and you don't realise you've barely drunk anything!0
