I find that I am always tired when I am exercising, like I am not increasing my stamina at all. I exercise almost 6 days a week, usually in the early mornings. I have recently quit smoking as well. Maybe I'm not eating the right foods to promote the right amount of energy when I work out, but I would really like to figure this out because I want to enjoy exercising not end up exhausted every time. My routine is 30 mins of moderate - intense cardio and then 30 mins of toning/weight lifting.

Sounds like maybe you are doing too much. 6 days of weight lifting is not a good idea and I run a lot of miles a week and dont run 6 days a week. You might try cutting you weight training back to 3 days a week and group major muscle groups (Chest&Back, Shoulders&Arms, Legs&Back) Run on days your not lifting, and try eating some carbs in the morning or train at night.

I used to have the same problem then I started doing tougher work outs every other day so one day I'd just go on the elliptical for 30 minutes as a light workout then the next day I'd do the elliptical for 30 minutes and do some weight lifting then the next do only the elliptical for 30 minutes etc.. Try eating some vegetables and fruits. Those really helped me

You may want to have your iron levels checked. Low iron can will cause fatigue is fairly common for women.

    Sounds like:

    a) you're overdoing things (should be lifting on alternate days or at least working different parts of your body)
    b) you probably need to eat more crabs (just a guess as your diary is private)

Maybe try to switch up the timing and see if it helps?

I tried working out in the early morning before work and I'm just too exhausted to get a good quality workout. Personally, I'm much better off working out as soon as I get home from work, and make sure to have a good snack with a mix of carbs and protein in the afternoon (usually greek yogurt and berries).
  • How long since you quit smoking? That could be a big part of it. I felt tired for several months when I quit.

ironically, may actually help an iron problem.
