if you can't measure it before then how are you measuring it after?

I don't pack it because, well, who does that? I actually usually use a 1/4 cup measuring cup and just scoop it out with that. Once I did that enough times, I could pretty much eyeball a good 1/4 cup, which is about as much as I have with any given meal. But yeah...don't pack it.

Sigh. Measure the whole thing dry, and then if you take 1/2 or 1/4 of the whole dish, you know how much it was.

if you measure first you will know the total in the pot, then measure the total in your pot, then measure your portion as a % of that total. so if 1 cup dry yields 3 cups cooked, and you eat 1 cup you ate 1/3 of the 1 cup dry.

I only measure it when its cooked and per cup, like mine I always have 3/4 cup cooked rice, it should be in there on the nutrition label

    I think 1/4 cup dry = 1/2 cup cooked.

I would get a scale anyway, if you're serious about calorie counting. It's critical. He'll get over it. My scale is tiny. He wouldn't even notice it.

Gosh, seems pretty unreasonable for a spouse to insist that the other spouse can't have a kitchen scale.

Maybe you could store one out of the way and just get it out to use it when needed? Mine is no bigger than a book, and it only cost $25.

a food weighing scale isn't a gadget, nor an 'appliance' - it is a tool. Surely, you are allowed tools in the kitchen?
    How else could you cook?

    PS 'His' kitchen? hmmm?
