I had multiple friends do the HCG diet last year. They had great results and then promptly gained back all the weight and extra. I think diet is the wrong word. I think we should look at losing weight as a lifestyle change. It didn't pack on in one day so it won't come off that fast either.

It is an absurd and rather dangerous and pointless 'plan' in my opinion, and like most other faddy diets that drastically restrict calories, most likely to result in health issues and/or a regaining of most if not all of the weight lost once a diet anywhere near normal is resumed.

It is also a topic that is not permitted on this forum, thus this topic will be locked sooner, rather than later. :)

Just curious, why is it not allowed?

Because topics on diets and eating patterns that are considered dangerous are not allowed. The site is focussed towards people losing weight/keeping fit in a healthy and sustainable way. Encouragement of unhealthy diets and eating disorders are both disallowed.

    Gotcha, thanks for explaining :)

The fact that every single one of these threads get locked should be a good indicator.

I think I looked into it this summer when I hit a plateu and true HCG is illegal in the US, and every product marked as HCG in stores contains NONE.

Scam. If I ate 500 calories a day I would lose weight, regardless of if I took some placebo drops or not. Not to mention some people have experienced negative side effects, like hair loss, etc.

Completely screwed me up..........took over a year to get my metabolism and body back in order.....am just doing the right thing now. I only did it because of a friend where I was working at the time had good results. But, she too had the same issue.....messed her whole system up as well.......

And not to mention that i towards the end ate a baked potato which was totally not allowed and man I paid for it........had the most horrific leg cramps and felt like my feet were drawing up into my knees...........never did that again and never experienced that again either.

    1. Pretty happy on 500 calories a day. The HCG seems to mostly help keep you not hungry. I have kept muscle mass mostly and lost mostly body fat. I still work out (lifting very heavy) and feel fine.
    2. Don't do it without doctor supervision.
    3. Everyone is different and MFP's 1200 minimum guideline might not work for you. If anyone would like to question that, I have a very reputable endocrinologist who suggested that I limit myself to 600 or so calories a day to lose weight. Why did he recommend that? Because he spent time looking over bloodwork and other lab tests. So did my naturopath and so did my other MD (though she just told me to lose weight, not how). Again, see #2.
    4. Yes, it's some effort to keep this up afterwards. That goes for any weight loss. Stop paying attention and watch yourself go back to where you started (hi pot! it's me kettle!).

I work in the medical field and sorry to say, this does not sound like advice from a very reputable endocrinologist. I suggest a second opinion and change in doctors. Maybe ask your other MD what she recommends for weight loss. Just because someone has the letters after their name does not mean you should trust every word they say. Please do your own research and never trust someone based on the M.D. - you are still putting your health in a strangers hands. You are your own best advocate.
